Do you want to replace the car window yourself?

Replacing a car window can cost a lot of money if you have it done by a brand dealer. Fortunately, there is also a cheap way to do this job. Replacing the car window yourself, for example, is an option that can save you a lot of money. With us you can find suitable car windows of many different brands and models. You can then do the car window replacement yourself or have it done by our certified fitting partners quickly and easily. In that case too, the price is considerably lower than at a brand dealer. In this article you can read more about the need to replace a car window if it is broken. We also tell you more about the production method and the differences between various car windows.

How is a rear window for a car produced?

Almost all cars have a rear window and also side windows made of tempered glass. There are some exclusive cars that use laminated glass in the rear window, but most brands and models will not. Tempered glass, also known as safety glass, is a single layer of glass that is heated quickly and then cooled down quickly. This creates a lot of tension on the glass and makes the rear window of a car very strong. However, if you get a collision or if due to vandalism your rear window is hit, it will falls apart into thousands of pieces.

Tempered glass is also called safety glass because the small pieces in which this glass falls apart are safer than the large shards that occur with other types of glass. The small pieces will cause much less damage to the occupants of a car if the rear window bursts. A disadvantage of a rear window made of tempered glass is that it will immediately be completely absent in the event of a hard impact. This causes the rear window to be replaced, or replace it yourself, quickly becomes necessary when the rear window breaks.

Difference between different types of car windows

Unlike rear windows, windscreens are composed of several layers. These are two layers of glass and one layer of PVB film. The two layers of glass are heated quickly and cooled down slowly, making them very strong. The three layers also make the windscreen even stronger. The production method of the glass ensures that the windscreen will not break when impacted, the car window will crack instead. The strong PVB film keeps the glass together thanks to its adhesive effect, so that the broken glass will not injure the occupants when the windscreen is shattered.

With a single crack, you may still drive on, but as soon as it is a multiple crack, or a crack in the driver's direct view, the windscreen replacement is quickly required. Fortunately, you can also easily replace the windscreen yourself by ordering the right car window from us.

Why do I need to replace the side and rear windows quickly?

If the side or rear window is missing, you run the risk of additional damage and you can't get on the road comfortably and safely with your car. The lack of a side or rear window is responsible for the following:

  • Thieves can easily get into the car
  • The upholstery can become mouldy due to the rain.
  • Electrical components can be damaged by the rain
  • The occupants are not safe from, for example, rubble coming from passing cars.
  • Lots of noise pollution if you are going to drive without a side or rear window

As you can read, it is strongly recommended that you quickly have a side or rear window replacement if it has broken. Replacing the car window yourself can be done very quickly and can save you a lot of money.

What does a new windscreen cost?

If you are wondering 'what does a new windscreen cost' then it is difficult to give an unambiguous answer. The price of a new windscreen and also a new rear window strongly depends on the brand and model of car you have. In addition, there are car windows that are more expensive because of, for example, a heat reflective coating, window heating or a rain sensor. For the exact prices of the automotive glass you need you can simply click on the brand and model on our website and view the options. In all cases, however, the prices here are much lower than at a brand dealer and many other suppliers of car windows.

In addition, many people wonder whether the car window replacement is not insured. However, the costs of replacing a car window are not covered by the standard, mandatory, third-party insurance. Only with an additional third-party fire and theft insurance it is possible that the costs are covered by the insurer. You will probably be charged a deductible or own risk only. In some cases the car insurance deductible is so high, that it is cheaper to do the car window replacement yourself.

How can the prices be so low here?

At a brand dealer the prices for a car window replacement are much higher than here. This is because only brand dealers are allowed to sell a car window with a brand logo on it. This monopoly allows them to ask more than is strictly necessary. You can buy an after market car window through us. These car windows are made in exactly the same factory as a car window with brand logo and are therefore of the same high quality. However, due to the lack of a brand logo, they may also be sold by non-brand dealers. As a result, there is a free market effect which makes the car windows that you can order online through us considerably cheaper. This applies both to rear windows and to front and side windows.

Car window replacement can be done by yourself

Many providers of car windows do not give the opportunity to replace the car window themselves. Through us, however, you can easily order the necessary automotive glass. By ordering the corresponding items such as rubbers and mouldings the car window replacement can be done by yourself when you have the knowledge for this. Orders are shipped quickly or you can pick them up at one of our partners.

If you don't have the knowledge to replace the car window yourself, our certified fitting partners will be happy to help you out. They come to the location with enthusiasm to replace the car window and also do this at affordable rates. To get back on the road quickly and safely with a new car window, you can count on our high quality for a low price.
