Cheaply replace your truck windscreen; on-site and on Saturdays

Damage to a truck windscreen is particularly annoying. After all, as a driver you work long days in the cabin, you cover a lot of kilometres and good visibility on the road is an important starting point for doing your job well and safely. Not every kind of damage to a truck windscreen requires immediate intervention. Nor is it necessary to replace a truck windscreen immediately after each chip.

But what do you need to pay attention to? What is important to know and how can you inexpensively replace your truck windscreen when repairing it is no longer possible?

How does damage to a truck windscreen actually occur?

In a car, a small stone splinter is enough to damage the windscreen. In trucks, the windscreen is much higher, but still, stones thrown up by the tyres of the vehicle in front are the cause of windscreen cracks. In addition, windscreen damage can be caused by vandalism, an accident or a collision with an animal.

As a truck driver, you undoubtedly know that the windscreen of your truck is made of laminated glass, which consists of two layers of glass with a layer of PVB film in between. In theory, this is extremely strong and the windscreen can withstand an incredible amount. In practice, the speed of the truck combined with the weight and speed of an approaching goose is enough to cause this:

So you see, even the windscreen of a truck does not have eternal life. Fortunately, the goose did survive the collision in the video above.

When should a truck windscreen be replaced?

Damage to a truck windscreen is annoying. Especially when the truck is used all day long, longer distances are driven and the truck is an asset within your company. After all, without transport there is no income.

Not every case of truck windscreen damage will immediately cause you to worry about the cost of a new one. Only in case of serious damage to the field of vision will the windscreen have to be replaced. This is the case with a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres, or a crack which has branched off. Smaller forms of window damage inside or outside the driver's field of vision are allowed.

Is there a chip with a larger diameter of 20 millimetres or a branched crack outside the view of the driver? Then the windscreen does not need to be replaced immediately, although we strongly recommend this for safety reasons. The windscreen may crack further and these types of damage can still obstruct the view of the driver in the truck, which is not desirable. Especially when driving longer distances.

What does a new windscreen for a truck or lorry actually cost?

Truck parts are expensive. And that also applies to a truck windscreen. Especially when you ask the dealer about prices, you will see substantial amounts. The amounts at your dealer are high because they are trying to sell you branded windscreens. Branded windscreens carry a logo, which makes them exclusive. That seems like a lot, but it literally does nothing for the quality or characteristics of the windscreen itself.

That is why at Autoglas Concurrent you will only find aftermarket windscreens for your truck. The quality, features and characteristics are identical to those of brand-name windscreens. However, because our truck windscreens do not have a logo, the price is much lower. We have taken a small selection below to give you an idea of our prices;

DAF 95

From € 339

DAF XF 105/106

From € 339

Scania 4

From € 399

Scania R

From € 399

Renault Midliner

From € 339

Iveco Stralis

From € 339

The above prices do not include fitting and/or delivery. If you choose for delivery and fitting within 2 working days, you pay € 300 extra. If you choose for delivery and fitting with a date that is more than two working days from ordering, the surcharge is lower.

You can also choose to have the windscreen delivered without fitting. In that case you only pay € 60 extra. This is an attractive option if you have your own mechanic who can replace the windscreen of your truck or lorry.

Don't have one? Then we advise you to let our certified fitting partners take care of the installation. Regardless of whether they are bonded windscreens or truck windscreens in rubbers, our specialists can always replace your truck's windscreen on-site. Also on Saturdays when it suits you better. We strongly advise against replacing your truck windscreen yourself if you are not an expert on truck windscreens. Not only because the correct fitting is important for the safety of you as a driver and fellow road users, but also because truck windscreens are very large and can easily be damaged by fitting errors or accidents.
