With the Audi A5, the car manufacturer is going back to the success of the Audi 80. With the many variants made on the A5, it's important to pay attention when you need a windscreen replacement for your Audi A5. If you let the Audidealer do this, you will pay the main price for the new windscreen. If you choose to replace the windscreen with an after market automotive glass, you will immediately save on the costs of the new windscreen. But first let's take a look at the A5 and how big the success of this model was in the Netherlands.
In 2007 the car was launched on the market and it was immediately clear that this model would have a hard time. The direct competitors, the BMW 4-series and the Mercedes Benz C-Class Coupé were very strong competitors. This is the score in 2019:
Model | Number of sales in the Netherlands |
16,000+ | |
8000+ | |
4000+ |
The competition was won with ease, but when we look at the success of the model within the Audi line, the results are disappointing. The Audi 80 sold 85,000 copies and the Audi A4 sold 120,000 times. And all three cars are in the middle class, so Audi will not have been really satisfied.
The first generation of the Audi A5 was started in 2007 and continued until 2016. The new B8 MLB platform was chosen, which immediately meant that the A5 would look a lot like the Audi A4 B (fourth generation). In the A5, however, the engine is placed further back for better weight distribution. This improves fuel economy and comfort.
The first generation of the A5 was delivered with front-wheel drive for the lighter engines and four-wheel drive (the famous Audi quattro of course) for the heavier models.
There are several other types of the first generation A5:
The Audi A5 was immediately delivered with several engines, including the special 2.7 litre V6-TDI with a crankshaft that makes a smaller stroke, just like the diesel engine in the Audi A6.
The new generation of the A5 is in fact nothing spectacular. Audi has chosen (as with the A4) for the new MLB platform and (as with the A4) for a selection of new engines.
Especially when it comes to different versions, it becomes interesting for Audi fans.
Audi has been having particularly hard times in recent years. The trend tends more and more towards economical and small models and that is exactly what Audi doesn't stand for. That's why it tries to make the big, uneconomical models more environmentally friendly. For example, the Audi A5 G-Tron, a variant of the A5 that runs on petrol and natural gas... And with all the possibilities there are today, that's not enough if Audi really wants to work on its image.
Audi wouldn't be Audi if it didn't make a big counterpart as a top model. The second generation Audi RS5 is equipped with a 2.9 litre bi-turbo V6 (from Porsche) with no less than 450 hp and a torque of 600 Nm. Despite the size of this car, the engine ensures that it takes less than four seconds from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour.
Audi has also introduced a second generation A5 convertible, again with a fabric roof and at the same time a higher weight than the coupé itself. That's why the petrol version only comes with a 2.0 TFSI or a larger volume.
The introduction of the A5 with 'De'Silva's most beautiful design ever' and a model in which 'Audi's designers combined emotive shapes with athletic tense surfaces' (the words of Audi himself) has been over-the-top. The Audi A5 is a very strong model, but clearly leans on the tricks that Audi already knew from the Audi 80 and the Audi A4. And there is nothing wrong with that.
Damage to your Audi A5 is annoying, especially when it comes to the windscreen. If you have an asterisk in the windscreen, there is no need to buy a new car window. Also, a single crack outside the driver's field of vision is no reason to panic immediately.
However, if the car window damage is in the driver's field of vision or if it is a branched crack, then the car window replacement is the only correct option. On the one hand because this is mandatory, and on the other hand because it greatly improves safety. Light can reflect very oddly in window damage, resulting in glare for the driver. This is also the reason why a car with window damage in the field of vision of the driver does not pass through the MOT.
You can only replace car windscreens if you know all about it and have a lot of experience with it. In all other cases it is very unwise to replace an Audi A5 windscreen yourself. It is best to have this done by our certified installation partners. They are ready in no time, know exactly what to look out for and also give a guarantee on the work. So you can truly get on the road safely.
The cost of a windscreen replacement for an Audi A5 quickly increases when you choose a branded windscreen. The costs for the windscreen itself are the highest because of the brand logo. But what does a car window cost without the brand logo? A lot less, without compromising on quality. The windscreens of after market glass meet exactly the same requirements. In fact, they often come from the factories where the brand glass is also made.
The price of a new windscreen depends on options such as a camera, rain sensor or sun shade band. To get an impression of the car window prices with the costs of replacing the windscreen, we have summarized this for you:
