Cost windscreen replacement of your Audi Q5

The Audi Q5 is the most sold model in the Audi Q-series in the Netherlands. This means that there is a large after market for parts. If you need a windscreen replacement for your Audi Q5, you can also use this option to keep the costs as low as possible. Before we look further at the possibilities of replacing a windscreen, we first look at the Audi Q5. Was Audi's second SUV a success, and why is the SQ5 a unique model in the German car manufacturer's portfolio?

The Audi Q5, the second SUV of this car manufacturer

Audi took the first steps on the SUV market with the Q7, a model of which the first generation was unsuccessful. The first Q5 line had the same problems as the Q7, but this time Audi was much quicker to solve the problems.

The first generation of the Q5 was built on the platform of the Audi A4 (model year 2007). The first models came on the market in 2008 and had to compete with strong alternatives. The BMW X3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC series were the most important competitors. However, the Q5 held up well: more than 8,500 copies of the Q5 have now been sold. The BMW X3 is doing better with more than 10,000 cars, where the Mercedes is far behind in the Netherlands with less than 3,000 sales.

Within two years to the hybrid

The Audi Q7 had to endure a lot. An inefficient and large car was not a strong choice of the Germans at the time of the diesel gate. The Q5 was much quicker to intervene in order to silence the criticism. Within two years after the launch of the first Q5 there was a hybrid line on the market. The Q5 Hybrid Quattro scored much better in terms of consumption and emissions. At the same time this is the first hybrid Audi has made. Striking detail: the Audi Q5 Hybrid Quattro does not have a rev counter, but a 'power meter'.

This power meter has a range of 0 to 100, where 100 (%) stands for the maximum capacity. These first steps on the hybrid market have been followed by many more copies and adapted engines for the Audim models.

The facelift of 2012

A facelift was applied in 2012. This is not about completely new generations with different platforms, as was the case with the Audi Q3 and Audi Q7. With this facelift, a number of things were changed, including:

  • Addition of a start-stop system
  • Direct injection
  • Higher performance engines

This resulted in a consumption that was no less than 17% lower than the models made before the facelift. And of course just at the moment that Audi wants more market share in Europe and America, it has to work on the consumption and emissions of the Audi models.

In addition, the lights of the model were adjusted and more engines became available. In 2015 another update was done, but this was only of a technical nature. The engines used for the Audi Q5 became considerably stronger and the software was updated.

Different variants

Several variants of the Audi Q5 have been released. An Audi Q5 Custom Concept was developed, with a 3.0 V6 TFSI engine (borrowed from the Audi S4 and Audi S5) with supercharger. Within 4.5 seconds from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour - and with red accents incorporated into the exterior for a sportier look.

What was really striking was the Audi SQ5. This was - of course - a sporty version of the Q5, but this model goes down in history for another reason. It was the very first time that Audi installed a diesel engine in an S-version. And probably also the last time. The second generation of the SQ5 was only delivered with a petrol engine. In April 2018 this type was already taken out of production.

The SQ5 has a 3.0 twin turbo V6 coupled to a tiptronic system with eight stages. Audi has also set up an exclusive line, the Audi SQ5 Exclusive Concept, in which nappa leather has been used in the interior. The second generation comes standard with 20 inch rims (21 inch optional) and a sport suspension that lowers the car by thirty centimetres. This type comes with petrol or diesel engines in Europe. The second generation Audi Q5 diesel version has never been marketed in America. In that country they only sell the petrol version.

The second generation of the Audi Q5

The second generation of the Audi Q5 was released in 2017. Audi decided to stick to the same platform. The basis of the second generation is again the Audi A4. However, this model is longer and considerably lighter: the difference with the first generation of the Audi Q5 is almost 100 kilos.

The second generation of the Audi Q5 has a lot to offer in the following areas:

  • Efficiency
  • Connectivity
  • Assistance systems

Is the Q5 the success Audi needed?

Falling sales, declining market share and late start producing SUV models. That was the situation at Audi when setting up the Audi Q5 at a time when the Q7 had already had to deal with mountains of criticism. But Audi took a sensible approach and immediately worked on the hybrid, listening to the demand on the market.

It is not for nothing that the Audi Q5 is the best-selling Q-Audi. In addition, Audi was able to use a lot of the knowledge when setting up the e-tron models
and making other types more economical. This makes the Audi Q5 without a doubt a celebrated model at the makers themselves.

What to do in case of windscreen damage to your Audi Q5?

The car window must be replaced when it no longer meets the requirements. In concrete terms this often concerns a star or a crack in the windscreen in the driver's field of vision. This can lead to dangerous situations when light is reflected onto the windscreen damage. In addition, it is obviously not conducive to your view of the road.

However, car window replacement is not as expensive as you might think. You can make significant cost savings by choosing an after market car window. These are car windows that are often made in the same factories as the brand glass of your Audi dealer. The requirements for the automotive glass are identical. However, due to the absence of the brand logo, part of the cost is also missing. Cheap car window replacement is certainly an option when you order a new windscreen for your Audi Q5 from us. An example of what a new car window costs:

€ 399.00
