Cheap windscreen replacement for your BMW 1-Series

The BMW 1-Series is one of the most popular models that the German brand has ever sold in the Netherlands. More than 50,000 copies of the BMW 1-Series were sold, spread across the various models and equipment levels. Not only the German solidity, but also the sporty character that we know from BMW have ensured its great success. Are you the owner of one of these cars and do you need a windscreen replacement for your BMW 1-Series, then it is good to know that this can be done much cheaper than your brand dealer would have you believe.

Before we go into the costs of a BMW 1-Series windscreen replacement, let's take a look at this attractive, sporty model from BMW and the different versions and generations of the 1-Series.

The BMW 1-Series, a surprising model in the C-segment

The BMW 1-Series is a C-segment model and has been rolling out of the factories since 2004. With the 1-Series, the German carmaker has created an entry-level model, with three different versions immediately available; the hatchback, the convertible and the coupé. The first two generations of the BMW 1-Series were equipped with rear-wheel drive, something we would not see in the following generations.

This was remarkable, because a hatchback with rear-wheel drive was unique in this class. Another striking fact is that the coupé and cabrio were removed from the 1-Series line after the first generation; they continued under the name BMW 2-Series.

The third generation; the end of rear-wheel drive

The second generation ran from 2011 to 2019. In 2019, the third generation entered the market, with BMW abandoning rear-wheel drive. The BMW 1-Series F40 (the official name for the third generation) was built on the same platform as the BMW F48 X1 and the Series Gran Coupe, which allows either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive options.

In the promotional video for the third generation BMW 1-Series, it is clear that BMW wants the car to shine mainly because of its comfort and its many technological gadgets (although the Germans couldn't resist taking it to the racetrack at the end of the video for the advertisement);

Was the BMW 1-Series a success in the Netherlands?

At the time of writing, the BMW 1-Series is still in production and more than 55,000 units have been sold. That may seem modest, but the 1-Series does have a top three ranking for BMW. Only the BMW 5-Series (over 250,000) and BMW 3-Series (over 100,000) did better, as Autoweek's figures show. The BMW also scored well in the rest of Europe, with more than 100,000 models sold annually from 2004 to 2020.

When should the windscreen of the BMW 1-Series be replaced?

It can happen that the windscreen of the BMW gets damaged, for example by a small splinter or a heavy object falling onto the windscreen. In far from all cases of windscreen damage, the windscreen needs to be replaced. In fact, in many cases you can just keep on driving.

Is it a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres or a ramified crack and is the damage in the driver's field of vision? Then it's a reject for the MOT. Damage to the windscreen can cause unpredictable reflections of incoming light, blinding you while driving. The damage also distracts from your field of vision. That's why the windscreen of your BMW 1-Series needs to be replaced in these cases.

In the case of other types of glass or cracks, the windscreen of your BMW 1-Series does not need to be replaced. However, it is wise to keep an eye on the damage. Large temperature differences between the inside and outside of the car (for example, driving with the heater on in the winter months) can cause the window to crack further.

What does a new BMW 1-Series windscreen cost?

A new BMW 1-Series windscreen can be purchased for as little as € 299. This is a windscreen for the E87, or the first generation (2004-2011). If you would like a windscreen for your BMW 1-Series, including delivery and installation by our certified partners, this can be done from as little as € 419 (duration: 8 to 14 days).

How can Autoglas Concurrent supply these windscreens so cheaply?

Unlike your brand dealer, we only offer after market automotive glass. These car windows are identical to the windscreens at your BMW dealer, with one small difference. The car windows you order online from us do not have a brand logo. Because the exclusivity of the glass is eliminated, we can offer our glass much cheaper. Did you know that in most cases a new BMW 1-Series windscreen is even cheaper than an original, second-hand BMW windscreen?

Besides, we like to make it as easy as possible for you. Our fitting partners install our windscreens on location throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. Are you a mechanic or do you have a garage? Then you can also order the windscreens for the BMW 1-Series without installation. If you have no experience with windscreen replacement, we strongly advise you not to replace the windscreen of the BMW 1-Series yourself.
