Cheap windscreen replacement for your BMW Z3

The BMW Z3 is one of the gems of the German carmaker. Especially when you own one of the iconic James Bond versions. The Z3 is the successor to the Z1, but with the new model, BMW first thought about the practical implementation to be able to prevent another debacle. Do you own a BMW Z3 and does the windscreen need replacing? With us, you can find a new BMW Z3 windscreen for as little as € 299.

Before we explain why our windscreens are so much cheaper than the automotive glass at your BMW dealer, let's have a look at this special 2-seater sports car.

BMW Z3; the successor to the Z1 but with mass production

The BMW Z1 was a spectacular idea, but the execution was so inadequate that the model could never have been a success. With the limited production run, demand for the Z1 always exceeded BMW's capacity. The BMW Z3 would put an end to this. With the BMW Z3, mass production did take place, as the E36 3-Series platform was chosen.

The BMW Z3 was produced from 1995 to 2002. Unlike the BMW Z1, the Z3 was immediately followed by a replacement; this would be the BMW Z4.

A model of BMW that would never be made in Germany

The BMW Z3 is the first model that was not made in Germany at all. The entire production of the model took place in Greer, South Carolina. The remarkable fact is that the coupé version of the BMW Z3 was developed by BMW engineers who did this in their own time.

Initially, the roadster models (2-seater convertible) were marketed with a 4-cylinder engine. A year later, the 6-cylinder engine entered the range, along with an optional hardtop that could be removed. The coupé models of the BMW Z3 only appeared on the market in 1998 and the unique design caused a lot of criticism. In Germany, the coupé version of the BMW Z3 was jokingly called a sports shoe.

James Bond and the BMW Z3

The BMW Z3 was used in James Bond GoldenEye, after which the James Bond Edition of the BMW Z3 was launched. With an entry price of $35,000, it was immediately a collector's model, also because initially a maximum of 20 copies would be made. Given the high level of interest, BMW decided to increase this to 100. This version was equipped with numerous James Bond details, such as floor mats with 007 on them.

The M models of the BMW Z3

Naturally, the BMW Z3 was fitted with a top-of-the-range model, which would be called the M line as is customary at BMW. The M models received a new front end, dynamic mirrors, larger brakes and an S50 engine (six in-line). From 2001, the models would be delivered with the new S54 engine. Unlike the other models in the BMW Z3 line, the M models would not receive a facelift in 2000.

Was the BMW Z3 a success?

The BMW Z1 was never a success, partly due to limited production capacity. The BMW Z3 could be put into mass production, and thus became a much greater success. In the Netherlands alone, more than 3,000 examples were sold, which is a remarkable figure for a luxury two-seater that you never see the standard commuters driving. In total, more than half a million copies of the BMW Z3 were made, which is a more than respectable score for this model.

We have to add that the unique character of the Z3 makes it hard to find competition on the market. The Mercedes SLK and Peugeot RCZ (especially the newer models) can be seen as alternatives, but before that BMW came up with the Z4-version, which literally and figuratively had to beat the competition. The higher entry price and the more luxurious segment were therefore no barrier to the Z3's success, especially since there was no direct competitor on the market during the production years.

When should the windscreen of the BMW Z3 be replaced?

Windscreen damage is annoying, especially in a luxury model like the Z3, where damage to the car directly affects its image. However, in most cases you can just keep on driving with damaged windscreens. Only when it's a crack with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres or a branched crack in the view of the driver, the car will be rejected by the MOT.

In all other cases you can just keep on driving with damaged windows. But it is wise to keep an eye on the damage. A damaged window can continue to crack. This is especially true when there are large temperature differences inside and outside the car, like when you drive with the heater on on a cold winter day.

How much does a new BMW Z3 windscreen cost?

With us, you can have a new BMW Z3 windscreen for as little as € 299. The price is much lower than the BMW dealer charges, while the quality of our glass is identical. The price difference lies in the absence of a brand logo in our windscreens.

The BMW dealer only sells and fits windscreens with a brand logo. This makes the glass exclusive, but the logo does nothing for the glass itself. Since our windows have no brand logo but are made in the same factories as the BMW car windows, you can be sure that we always offer the best value for money. Our new car windows are often even cheaper than used BMW brand car windows!

Can I replace the windscreen of my BMW Z3 myself?

If you are a garage owner or have a lot of experience with car window replacement, you can simply order the new car window from us without fitting. If this doesn't apply to you, we strongly advise you not to replace the windscreen yourself. This is work for the specialist, who, with correct fitting, will ensure that the glass does not leak and does not dislodge during abrupt braking. With us, you can always count on an on-site windscreen replacement by a certified fitting partner. This applies to all locations in the Netherlands and Belgium.
