The Citroën AX is an extremely popular model from France and despite the fact that the AX was only in production for 12 years, more than 50,000 units have been sold in the Netherlands. Do you have a Citroën AX whose windscreen needs to be replaced or do you have your eye on a used car with windscreen damage? Then you can find new Citroën AX windscreens with the best value for money with us. Before we surprise you with the low price of a new windscreen, let's take a look at Citroën's special model and find out what explains its success.
The Citroën AX was to be the successor to the Citroën Visa, and back in 1983 the French went to the drawing board to design the model. Actually, the model was also supposed to be a replacement for the Talbot Samba, but Peugeot decided to pull the plug on Talbot, partly because the Peugeot 205 had become a resounding success and (the market share of) Talbot was actually no longer needed.
In 1986, the Citroën AX arrived at dealerships, but only for countries with the steering wheel on the left. Britain had to wait a year. The AX was marketed as a 1.0, 1.1 or 1.4, and in 1988 a 1.4-litre diesel was also added. In 1990, the AX became the smallest Citroën on offer, as production of the Citroën 2CV ceased in this year.
The AX was immediately popular, and this had everything to do with the fact that the car was extremely economical, thanks to its aerodynamics and very low weight of less than 650 kilos. This was made possible by using plastic and thinner metal where possible. In addition, the geniuses at Citroën managed to reduce friction in the engine itself, resulting in very low fuel consumption for this model.
In 1991, the model received a facelift, in which mainly the rear of the car was modified, but the interior also received major changes. What proved to be a particularly good move was the introduction of the most powerful AX at the time, the 99 hp GTi version, which meant that there was now a sporty AX on the market. However, this was also the time when Citroën slowly but surely started to run out of models, which was especially noticeable in 1996.
The facelift is inextricably linked to the AX Electrique, but this model (initially with a 20 kW engine) was mainly sold to government agencies. The range of these early models was around 75 kilometres.
From 1996, supply declined sharply, partly because the Citroën Saxo was launched. By the end of 1998, production ceased completely after nearly 2.5 million units had rolled out of the factories. Although there was no direct successor, the Saxo is often cited as a successor, and the Peugeot 106 (launched in 1991) is also very much related to this model.
The Citroën AX is one of Citroën's many successes, and the model also sold frequently in the Netherlands: some 50,000 of them drove away from dealerships. Smaller, more economical cars were already in demand at the time, and when the Citroën 2CV disappeared from the market and the AX proved particularly economical thanks to its low weight, optimal aerodynamics and better-performing engine, this was a model that received a lot of attention worldwide.
The advertisements undoubtedly contributed greatly to the model's success, as many high-profile, funny and strong advertising campaigns were made for the AX. The clip below is, additionally, the strangest advertisement you have ever seen for a car model.
Windscreen damage is extremely annoying and can even be very inconvenient. Yet in far from all cases of glass damage, the windscreen needs to be replaced. In fact, there are two cases where the Citroën AX windscreen does need to be replaced. If the windscreen damage is in the driver's field of vision and this is a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of at least 2 centimetres, your car will no longer pass the MOT and the windscreen will have to be replaced.
In all other cases, you can continue driving with a damaged windscreen. Of course, it is wise to keep an eye on the chip or crack in case of large temperature differences between sides of the car window, as windscreen damage may increase in special circumstances.
When you choose our replacement automotive glass, you can have a new Citroën AX windscreen for as little as €249. This includes VAT, but does not include the cost of a new moulding (€30). If you opt for fitting and/or delivery, there is also a charge for this. The website adjusts the price immediately when you indicate exactly what you want, so you always know the total cost.
Our automotive glass is considerably cheaper than the original car windows for the Citroën AX, while the quality is identical. The explanation for this lies in the brand logo incorporated in the windscreens of your Citroën-dealer. This logo creates an exclusive character, which mainly means a higher price. We do not go along with this, which is why you can find the same windscreens (but without the logo) considerably cheaper with us.
You can often save quite a bit on new car parts, such as our replacement windscreens for the Citroën AX. You might immediately consider replacing the windscreen yourself too, to save even further on costs. However, that's not a tight plan, because replacing windscreens on a car is a job that needs to be done carefully to reduce the risk of damage (during and after fitting). That's why we work with fitting partners across the country, so that your Citroën AX windscreen can always be replaced by a professional and you have nothing to worry about.
Can and do you want to replace the windscreen yourself? Then you can also come to us for automotive glass excluding fitting. We deliver to private and business customers throughout the Netherlands and Belgium and will be happy to help you.
