Cheap windscreen replacement for your Citroën BX

At the time of writing, the BX is still by far the best-selling Citroën in the Netherlands, and that despite a relatively short period of production. The Citroën BX doesn't look very spectacular at first glance either, but the French have put a lot of time and effort into the model, of which as many as 2.3 million would be sold worldwide. Do you own a BX and need a windscreen replacement? Then you can find a new windscreen with us for as little as €349. Before we tell you what our secret is that allows us to offer automotive glass cheaply, let's look at the explanation for the success of the Citroën BX.

1982: the first phase of Citroën's BX

The Citroën BX was the successor to the Citroën GS and GSA
and entered the market in 1982. Its biggest spearhead was its particularly low maintenance costs, something the French had worked on for a long time in order to develop a model that was attractive to every car user. Initially the model was only available with the 1.4 or 1.6, but four years later considerably more engines would be added, as well as a 5-door version.

1986: the second phase of the Citroën BX

In 1986 came the second phase of the Citroën BX, with the interior and dashboard being updated to the brand's more conventional look. The exterior was also modified, with the rounder bumpers in particular standing out.

In 1988, the turbo-diesel version of the BX was launched, which immediately caught the eye of journalists. This simultaneously became one of the BX's biggest breakthroughs, because at that time only slow, cumbersome diesel cars were on the market and this was exactly what the BX turbodiesel was not. Indeed, compared to its competitors, this model was actually extremely fast as well as quiet, while still offering low maintenance costs that no other diesel could match.

The success of the Citroën BX

Despite having only been in production for 12 years, the Citroën BX sold more than 2.3 million units worldwide. In the Netherlands, the BX also became an absolute stunner: almost 125,000 units
were sold, making it by far the best-selling model of this brand. In comparison, the Citroën C1 is in second place with 25,000 fewer units and the Citroën C3 (90,000) and Citroën AX (50,000) do not even come close to the success of the Citroën BX.

This is when we want to take you back in time, to perhaps one of the best car adverts of the 1980s. In the commercial, Citroën does a great job of showing why this model became such a huge success.

When does the Citroën BX windscreen need replacing?

It could just happen that you get a pebble against the windscreen while driving, which splashes under the tyres of a fellow road user and causes a chip or crack in the windscreen. Or that you see a second-hand Citroën BX that has a damaged windscreen. Then the question is when does the car's windscreen really need to be replaced. This is only the case when the windscreen damage is in the driver's field of vision and it is a star with a diameter of 20 millimetres or more, or when it is a branched crack. In these cases, your car will be rejected at the MOT because the window damage could cause dangerous situations.

In all other cases, you may continue driving with the windscreen damage, but it is up to you to decide whether you want to have the windscreen replaced or not. Many people still opt for windscreen replacement in these cases because they find the damage annoying or unsightly.

What does a new Citroën BX windscreen cost?

You already have a new Citroën BX windscreen for €349, not including the €20 for the new windscreen moulding. This is considerably cheaper than the original windscreens for this Citroën, and somewhere this is remarkable, because the quality of the automotive glass is identical. Our big secret: our car windows do not have a brand logo, which means the exclusive character is missing and you do not pay unnecessarily for new car windows.

The difference in price is so great that in almost all cases, our new windscreens for the Citroën BX are still cheaper than second-hand car windows, which are also much harder to find and fit!
