The Citroën C5 is a particularly popular model from France and ranks high in the list of best-selling models in the Netherlands. The counter just missed the 50,000 mark and there are still quite a few of them on the road. Do you have a Citroën C5 with windscreen damage and does it need to be replaced? Then you will find quality new car windows at very competitive prices, with the option to arrange on-site windscreen replacement immediately.
Before we tell you more about replacement windscreens for the Citroën C5, let's take a closer look at this model to see why it has become such a great success.
The Citroën C5 arrived at dealerships in 2001, replacing the Citroën Xantia. The C5 would become Citroën's first modern car in the C-series, after which many other models would follow. Incidentally, Citroën had previously had a C-series in 1930 with the C4 and the C6.
The first examples featured a 1.8. 2.0 or 3.0 petrol engine, or the 1.6, 2.0 and 2.2 for the diesel versions. What was remarkable was how the suspension worked for this model. It was still possible to adjust the height of the car manually (a popular feature from Citroën), but at the same time the model had a computer that adjusted the suspension when it was unsuitable for the speed. Citroën also added Hydractive 3+ to some models, a system that adjusts the car's stiffness while driving to make the ride more comfortable and optimal.
In 2004, the model received a major facelift in which the entire front and rear were replaced to better match the new Citroën C4. The facelift also got rotating headlights.
In 2007, production of the first generation was stopped as the second generation rolled out of the factories. A total of 720,000 units of the first generation were made.
In 2008, the second generation arrived at dealerships, with more focus on aerodynamics and with a longer version (C5 Tourer) in addition to the standard C5. The model was also fitted with the 2.7 Ford engine also found under the bonnet in the Citroën C6. This would be replaced two years later by a 3.0 litre that was more fuel-efficient and cleaner. In 2010, the 2.0-litre HDi and 2.2-litre HDi also had to be replaced to comply with new EU directives.
2011 was the year when the C5 received a minor facelift, but apart from three new engines, little changed. The facelift in 2012 was also not drastic and brought few exciting surprises.
In 2016, the Citroën C5 was already withdrawn from the market in the UK, as only a few hundred units were sold each year. A year later, the model would also disappear from the European market, as there was no longer a market for this car. Not only because of the demand for crossover models, but also because the Citroën C6 has almost the same target group as the C5. To better connect with the market and with the help of the 100 million investment from PSA Group, the French brand launched the Citroën C5 Aircross in 2018.
There would be another successor in 2002. This became the Citroën C5 X, which uses the same name but is a completely different model in the form of a larger crossover SUV.
In the commercial below, you can see how Jean-Michel Jarre, French pioneer of electronic music, takes full advantage of the Citroën C5's many features and even shows that, as a driver, you don't have to realise when an entire bridge has been wiped off the face of the earth (only if you drive a C5, of course).
Good road visibility is important for your safety and the safety of your fellow road users. This is why there are strict rules regarding windscreen damage. Is there damage in the windscreen and is it in the driver's field of vision? Then your car will be rejected at the next MOT if the damage is a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres or if it is a branched crack.
Is the damage in a different place or is the size limited? Then you can continue driving with the damaged windscreen. Of course, you can always choose to replace the windscreen anyway if you find the damage annoying or unsightly.
You already have a new windscreen for your Citroën C5 for €299. That's considerably cheaper than the windscreens your Citroën dealer has ready for you, while the quality is identical. The price difference is in the brand logo that is in the original windscreens. This little logo gives the car windows an exclusive character, which results in a considerably higher price. Other than that, the logo does nothing for the automotive glass. This means that our replacement Citroën windscreens are the best value for money.
