The Dacia Sandero Stepway is a notable model from the Renault-Dacia partnership. Opinions about this model have been divided since the moment the first Stepway rolled out of the factory. As a crossover of the Dacia Sandero, expectations were high and the models found eager acceptance among the average SUV enthusiast who did not want to spend the entire savings account on a car. On this page, we take a closer look at this particular model and see why it managed to claim the majority of Sandero sales despite all the criticism.
Do you have a Dacia Sandero Stepway whose windscreen needs replacing? Then you have come to the right place for automotive glass with the best value for money. We will go into that in more detail after the Stepway has been given the attention it deserves.
The Dacia Sandero was itself a resounding success, along with the Logan launched a few years earlier. The Stepway is the crossover model of the Sandero and was launched in Brazil back in 2008, less than a year after the Sandero itself was placed on the market. The European Stepway only came in May 2009 with a 1.6-litre petrol engine with 90 hp or a 1.5 dCi diesel engine with 70 hp. However, it was not the engines that caused a stir in the automotive world. It was the price, which was under €20,000 at launch. Did this mean a lot of SUV for little money or were there snags under the Romanian grass?
The answer: a bit of both. Anyone expecting a perfectly finished SUV without the use of plastic for less than €20,000 will come out cold. Yes, Dacia has obviously had to cut costs to get the price as low as possible. This is also reflected in the weight, as an unladen weight of a sloppy 1100 kilograms already betrays that sacrifices were made in terms of material choice.
Still, most reviewers were positive right from the start, especially when it comes to the second (2012) and third (2020) generation Stepways where Dacia has paid considerably more attention to the finish and the feeling of comfort and luxury while driving. Incidentally, the third generation of the Dacia Sandero Stepway also comes with the exclusive TCe 110 engine from the Dacia Jogger.
The success of the Dacia Sandero Stepway is undoubtedly not due to the promotional video Renault managed to make, as it is on the face of it as low-budget as the model itself. Above all, watch the loop below, which has surprisingly little to do with the car, unless you want to know what you can fit in the boot.
Incidentally, there is no doubt that the Stepway has been a success. The Dacia Sandero itself is Dacia's best-selling passenger car in the Netherlands. Internationally, the Stepway (all variants) accounts for 2/3rds of all Sandero sales, so this model has given the Sandero's sales figures an incredible boost.
Windscreen damage is always annoying, but by no means always does the windscreen of your Dacia Sandero Stepway need to be replaced immediately. On the contrary, there are only two cases where there is a rejection at the MOT when it comes to windscreen damage. Both cases involve windscreen damage in the driver's field of vision. They are:
In all other cases, the car simply passes the MOT with windscreen damage. However, it is wise to keep an eye on the windscreen, as a damaged window can crack further with large temperature differences on either side of the windscreen. You can think about driving with the air conditioning full on your Dacia Sandero Stepway windscreen on a hot summer day.
You already have a new Sandero Stepway windscreen for €299. This is the windscreen price for model years 2008 to 2013, excluding fitting and delivery and excluding the cost of the windscreen moulding. If you have your windscreen fitted by our certified fitting partners on location in the Netherlands, including windscreen moulding, the price will be €419. If you want your windscreen replaced in Belgium on location, including windscreen moulding, the total price will be €449.
Brand dealers only fit automotive glass with a brand logo. That logo does nothing for the windscreen (after all, it has no function) but does make the windscreens more exclusive. Our windscreens are identical to your dealer's automotive glass, but do not have a brand logo and are therefore considerably cheaper. That means you will always find the best value for money with us.
If you are not sure whether you can replace the windscreen of your Stepway yourself, then the chances are very slim. Replacing the windscreen must be done correctly to ensure that the car is not damaged and the windscreen does not come loose, for example during abrupt braking. Our certified fitting partners replace automotive glass on location throughout the Netherlands and Belgium, so you can always come to us.
