Windscreen replacement Dodge Ram Pickup

The Dodge Ram Pickup has been marketed in different names and in different versions. Does your Dodge Ram Pickup need a windscreen replacement, then it is important to pay attention when choosing the model. Are you not sure if you have found the right windscreen, or do you want us to take a look at the options with you? Then use the live chat. Before we go into the possibilities of replacing the windscreen, we first look at some of the models that have been released under this name, and which model leads the sales lists in the Netherlands in the field of the pick-up.

Which variants are there of the 'Dodge Ram Pickup'?

One of the reasons for the different names and models is the fact that Dodge is no longer an independent company. Since 2014, Dodge has been producing models under the flag of the FCA
(FiatChrysler Automobiles). That's why a name change was made in 2011, with 'Dodge' disappearing from the name.

The first versions are of course named after Dodge Ram Pickup. This model was developed to replace the D-series (pick-ups) and B-series (vans). Dodge used this model to go back to the types that were made between 1932 and 1954, with the same emblem on the car. The differences with the D-series are so small that critics call the 'new' Dodge Ram Pickup a facelift of its predecessor.

A number of models that have been on the market since that time:

  1. Ram Pickup: the model since 2011, with 1500/2500/3500 as an addition to indicate the weight
  2. Dodge Ram 50: the Dodge version of the Mighty Max of Mitsubishi who was initially called the Dodge D50 before the Ram predicate was added
  3. Dodge Rampage: a car that is based on the pickup, but which isn't exactly the same

The Dodge Ram Pickup is of course strongly linked to the Dodge Ram Van, a van that became very popular because hardly any adjustments were made during decades of production.

The (Dodge) Ram Pickup

In 2011, the Ram Pickup was launched under the label of the FCA, which means that Dodge can no longer appear in the name. This pick-up is the direct successor to the first generation of Dodge's Ram trucks, which was launched on the market in 1981. These models were called a facelift of the D-series, but more striking was the fact that the models were delivered with a lot of options. These included air conditioning, a cassette player, stronger locks on the doors, stylish wheels, special colours and plough construction for the people who wanted to shift snow with the Ram Pickup.

The Dodge Ram Pickup started the second generation in 1994. Sales exceeded 400,000 a year, partly because this model became 'Truck of the Year' (Motor Trend, 1994).
The sales success was also due to the appearance of the Ram Pickup in the film Twister of course.

In 1998 the second generation was updated. The diesel got a sixth gear, the mirrors suddenly became round and extra attention was paid to safety. In 2002 the model slipped to the third generation, without any changes being made. This third generation did have a big problem. The 2500 and 3500 models of the Ram Pickup were only available in 2003 instead of 2002, because the 5.7 litre V6 Hemi engine was not ready for production.

The third generation: the latest with Dodge in the name

The third generation was launched in 2002, with a direct focus on the 1500 models. The 2500 and 3500 models would only be released one year later. The fourth generation broke records: in 2002-2003 almost 450,000 models were sold. Yet this was no reason for celebration. The F-150 from Ford did much better, as did the GM-trucks that were more popular in America.

Generation four from 2009 onwards

Generation four was launched on the market in 2009. All models that have been sold since 2010 no longer have 'Dodge' in the name. Of this model are again the 1500/2500/3500 and 4500 version made. Also a 5500 (5500 kilogram) version was developed. This way Ram shows once again that she is better at making cars with a lot of power and weight than at making nice commercials:

The Ram Pickup 1500 is the best-selling pick-up in the Netherlands. Despite the fact that the 1500 didn't do very well in Europe, because the Volkswagen Amarok proved to be too strong a competitor here. The fact that quite a few models of the Ram Pickup have been sold is mainly because the customer can put together the pick-up himself at most of the dealers. On the other hand there is a high consumption and especially a lot of road tax.

When should the windscreen of the Dodge Ram Pickup be replaced?

According to the guidelines of the Dutch national road traffic authority (RDW), the windscreen replacement is required when there is a asterisk in the driver's field of vision of more than 20 millimetres in diameter. Driving with a crack in the windscreen is also permitted, as long as it concerns a single crack, preferably not in sight of the driver.

So, when is the car window replacement required?

  • When there is windscreen damage in the driver's field of vision in the form of a asterisk bigger than 20 millimetres in diameter - or a branched crack
  • When the side or rear window of the Dodge Ram Pickup has smashed

This does not have to cost a lot of money. If you opt for after market automotive glass, the costs are much lower than if you opted for automotive glass from the brand dealer.

After market automotive glass for a Dodge Ram Pickup?

Cheap car window replacement starts on the after market. For the Dodge models this is also a much easier choice. On our website you will find the windscreen you need within minutes, while finding a brand dealer can take considerably longer.

The difference between after market vehicle glass and your Dodge/FCA dealer's brand glass is also very small. The brand glass has a brand logo, which does not fulfil any function. It only provides an exclusive right of sale, which means that the price is many times higher. After market automotive glass is made in the same factories and meets exactly the same requirements as branded glass for your Dodge Ram Pickup.

Is it cheaper if I replace my own windscreen?

Probably not, unless you are a car mechanic and order the windscreen without fitting. If you are not a car mechanic and have no experience in replacing vehicle glass, it is wiser to have our certified assembly partners install the windscreen. They can arrange this within a short time at your home or on location. The costs are as follows:
