Cheap windscreen replacement for your Fiat 500

The Fiat 500 can easily be called an iconic model that has had two different production cycles and has been marketed in numerous different versions in a long list of countries worldwide. If you own one of these and need to replace the windscreen of your Fiat 500, then you have come to the right place. Not only will you find cheap windscreens for your car with us, you can even arrange instant windscreen replacement on-site during your order.

Before we tell you more about our offer, let's take a look at the small car that managed to become a huge success and can also be found in different appearances.

1957-1975: the original Fiat 500

The story of the Fiat 500 does not begin in 2007. And actually, it doesn't start in 1957 either, the time when the first generation of this model rolled out of the factories. We start in 1936, the year Fiat decided to make the Fiat Topolino, a cheap model that was picked up again after the end of World War II (1949) because there was a lot of demand for cheap, small cars.

So in 1957 would finally come the ‘real’ Fiat 500, a model derived from the Topolino but with influences from the Volkswagen Beetle. For instance, the new Fiat would have an engine at the rear of the car (like the Fiat 600)
.

The Fiat 500 became a resounding success in Europe and the Italians decided to market a larger model alongside the small 2-door, with a sunroof, more legroom and a tilted engine to create more space inside the car itself.

The original Fiat 500 remained in production until 1975, which was somewhat remarkable. Indeed, its successor, in the form of the Fiat 126,
had already gone into production in 1973. With that, the curtain seemed to have come down on the model that was unprecedentedly popular and would sell more than 4 million units.

2007: the Fiat 500 returns from the grave

Around 2000, Fiat had a solid spoon in the pie when it came to the smaller car market. The Fiat Panda and Fiat Punto were successes, but the Italians were not done yet. In 2004, a new concept car was introduced, the Trepiùno (translated: 3 adults and 1 child), a model that leaned heavily on the original Fiat 500. Production started in 2007, exactly 50 years after the introduction of the first generation.

The new 500 was built on the Fiat Mini Platform and uses the revolutionary VVT. In other words, a technology where the timing of the valves is variable, with which the new Fiat was an immediate winner. Its biggest appeal factors were its small size, relatively low entry price and high level of luxury and comfort, especially compared to other small cars that were on the market.

Facelift in 2016 for the Fiat 500

In 2016, the Fiat 500 got a facelift with a completely new grille and new headlights, with LED lights. The interior was also updated and the model got a completely new steering wheel. Then, Fiat would also add a Mild Hybrid version in 2020.

The Fiat 500e, the electric mini

In 2012, an all-electric Fiat 500 was shown, which would arrive at dealerships a year later as the Fiat 500e. Fiat had an idea with this in the United States, by the way, as this model came mainly in states where there was a lot of focus on zero-emission vehicles and where regulatory adjustment was plausible.

Of course, at the same time, the electric version was a way to keep more in touch with the market, which was increasingly turning to plug-in cars during this period. The small Fiat, clearly a city car, could aim high as an EV, was the carmaker's idea.

Some special versions of the Fiat 500

Is that all the Fiat 500 has brought us? By no means, as this model has been launched in an incredible number of versions and, of course, we are happy to tell you which striking, fun or successful models were among them. Like the Fiat 500C, the convertible version of the model that is even closer to the original Fiat 500 than the new 500. Or the Fiat 500L where it was mainly aimed at the American market, and also can't forget to mention the Fiat 500X.

Or what about the Abarth. The Fiat 500 Abarth is a model that has been tuned by Abarth and features the 1.4-litre Fire petrol engine that provides the model with 133 hp with 180 Nm in normal mode and a whopping 206 Nm in sport mode, making this an impressive appearance with particularly high torque for the lightweight, compact model.

Some other models listed with some limited information:

  • 500 Start & Stop - the version with Start & Stop technology
  • 500 by Diesel - the version launched together with the fashion brand Diesel
  • 500 Barbie - indeed, pink
  • Fiat 500 Ferrari - 200 models that joined Ferrari dealers as loaner cars for when their Ferrari needed repairs or maintenance
  • 500 by Gucci - a model Fiat used to celebrate the reunification of Italy (150 years) and Gucci's birthday (90).

Many more versions of the Abarth were made, by the way, with the focus on performance (or more horsepower and more torque) in all models.

The enormous success of the Fiat 500

The success of the Fiat 500 is difficult to quantify, partly because the two production periods are so far apart AND because the Fiat 500 was secondarily introduced to a market where Fiat's compact models already dominated. In several countries, the 500 ousted the Fiat Panda from first place, with sales figures well into the millions worldwide, making it one of the most successful compact cars ever.

In the Netherlands, however, the 500 did not win out over the Panda. Indeed, it didn't even come close. Less than 100,000 units
of the Fiat 500 were sold in the Netherlands, putting it ahead of the Fiat Uno, Fiat Punto and the Fiat Panda (almost 200,000).

We always like to show you funny, impressive or typical videos of the models to make your day even more fun. This is easier with the Fiat 500 than with many models, as there is an awful lot of material available. Like this somewhat cheeky advert, in which Fiat makes fun of the English and clearly indicates its desire to conquer the market:

Our luck is that the Fiat 500 was very popular, Fiat made very nice commercials for it AND there are people who collect such clips in a 10-minute compilation. Pay special attention to Fiat's incredibly proud approach, constantly capitalising on the Italian character of the car, something not many car manufacturers dare to imitate.

When should the windscreen of your Fiat 500 be replaced?

Windscreen damage is annoying and when you use your car daily or weekly, there is always the risk of a chip or crack in the windscreen while driving or even in the car park. But in which cases does your car's windscreen really need to be replaced? That is only in two cases. If the damage is a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres or a branched crack AND it is in the driver's field of vision, the windscreen should be replaced. Your car will then no longer pass the MOT and it is dangerous to continue driving with windscreen damage in this shape and size.

Is the windscreen damage limited or not in the driver's field of vision? Then you can choose to continue driving your car. However, it is wise to keep an eye on the damage, especially if there are large temperature differences between either side of the window. Indeed, while driving with the heater full on the windscreen on a cold winter day, the window may crack further.

What does a new Fiat 500 windscreen cost?

With us, you can find a new windscreen for your Fiat 500 for as little as €299. That is much cheaper than the windscreens the Fiat dealer has available for you, and there is a somewhat obvious reason for this, as the quality of the automotive glass is identical. The ‘big’ difference is the brand logotype in the Fiat windscreens, which makes them exclusive and therefore significantly more expensive. After market automotive glass is produced by the same automotive glass manufacturers, only it does not have a brand logo and that means you can always find cheap car windows with us without compromising on quality.

The price difference is so great that our new windscreens are often still cheaper than second-hand automotive glass for the Fiat 500.

Can you replace the Fiat 500 windscreen yourself?

The Fiat 500 is a compact car with a modest windscreen, but that doesn't mean you should immediately poke the screwdriver under the old windscreen to make room for the new one. Windscreen replacement is a precise job reserved for professionals. We work together with professional fitting partners who replace windscreens on location throughout the Netherlands and Belgium, so you can be sure that the window will be replaced correctly and you will be back on the road with an intact, clean windscreen in no time.
