Cheap windscreen replacement for your Fiat Cinquecento

When it comes to the Fiat Cinquecento, there are a few things that immediately stand out. The name, for example, which is quite tricky for people who do not master the Italian language. And the fact that this is by no means the prettiest model from this carmaker, but that, despite this, more than a million units would be made. Do you have a Fiat Cinquecento and need a windscreen replacement? Then you can find cheap windscreens with us that are identical in quality to the original car windows for this model, but at a significantly lower price.

Before we tell you what we can offer, let's look at why this model could become so popular.

The Fiat Cinquecento, a model that would only know one generation

The ‘Cinquecento’ in the name Fiat Cinquecento stands for ‘500’, but the model could not be called the Fiat 500 because that the 500 had gone out of production in 1975. Incidentally, the basis of the Fiat Cinquecento was already in the early 1980s, where the Polish car manufacturer FSM
(which would later be acquired by Fiat) was working on making the car as fuel-efficient as possible, which was not illogical as this was the time just after the oil crises.

Two models would emerge from this research. The Fiat Cinquecento, which would arrive at dealerships in 1991, and the Renault Twingo (which went into production a year later). The Fiat Cinquecento replaced the Fiat 126 and got a number of options, including air conditioning, adjustable headlights, separate rear seats, electric windows, central door locking and a sunroof.

The base version did not come with these options and was downright Spartan. But, in fairness, that was also exactly the idea behind the model that was supposed to be as cheap and economical as possible. Production of the Fiat Cinquecento ceased in 1998. The model was succeeded by the Fiat Seicento, which entered production in 1997.

The surprising Fiat Cinquecento Elletra

There have been quite a few special versions of the model and we want to single out two because they deserve special attention. First, the Fiat Cinquecento 1.1 FIRE, a model with an 1100 cc engine with 53 hp borrowed from the Fiat Punto. The FIRE version was completely dressed up as a race car, with racing seats, red seatbelts and a wheel and gear knob made of leather. The FIRE would be the start of the Kit-Car version for Group A car racing.

The Elettra was an equally big surprise. In fact, from 1992 to 1996, Fiat made an all-electric Fiat Cinquecento called the Fiat Cinquecento Elettra. This model had a range of 100 kilometres and used two battery packs to make this possible. The model was very expensive, but still became fairly popular in Italy, Switzerland and even France.

A reasonable success with over a million sales worldwide

An awkward name, a somewhat square and boring exterior and a Spartan dressing, and yet more than 1 million copies of the Fiat Cinquecento were made. How was this possible? Actually, it is fairly simple. Fiat decided to convert FSM's research into a model that was cheap and economical, and at the same time compact but with four seats. In doing so, the Italians made an ideal entry-level car (which Renault would duplicate with the Twingo).

Was the model a resounding success in the Netherlands? Not really, but with almost 30,000 models sold,
Fiat can be very satisfied, especially since this puts the Fiat Cinquecento right behind the Fiat Tipo, Fiat Ritmo and its successor, the Fiat Seicento.

Fiat otherwise managed to translate the advantages of the model perfectly into a simple advertisement with a clear message for all viewers:

When should the windscreen of your Fiat Cinquecento be replaced?

Although windscreen damage can be quite annoying, by no means always the car window needs to be replaced. A side window does need to be replaced in the event of car window damage, as it disintegrates in the event of glass damage. This is not the case with a windscreen, as these are two layers of glass stuck together with a layer of PVB film between them. Therefore, in case of a crack or chip, it does not fall apart, but when exactly should the windscreen of your Fiat Cinquecento be replaced?

If the windscreen damage is in the driver's field of vision and this is a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres, you will need a new windscreen. Your car will no longer pass the MOT with this windscreen damage, as the damage is too dangerous while participating in traffic.

In all other cases, you may continue driving with the damaged windscreen, although it is wise to keep an eye on the damage. This is because damage can increase, especially if there are large temperature differences between the two sides of the car window.

What does a new Fiat Cinquecento windscreen cost?

If you opt for our replacement car windows, you will already have a new Fiat Cinquecento windscreen for €299. This price includes VAT, but does not include the cost of the new windscreen moulding (€40), which you can of course also order directly from us. Despite the fact that our car windows are much cheaper than the original windscreens for this model, the quality is identical. The price difference lies in a brand logo that gives the original windows an exclusive character. Because of the absence of the brand logo, our new windows are often still cheaper than used car windows for Fiat models.
