Cheap windscreen replacement for your Fiat Croma

The Fiat Croma is an unusual model from Italy. Not only because of its shape or the model itself, but mainly because of the fact that there was a nine-year gap between the various models with this name, while the ‘second generation’ was indeed a continuation of the model itself. If you have a Fiat Croma from the first or second production period and need to replace the windscreen, you can take advantage of quality automotive glass at the lowest price with us, with optimal ordering convenience and even the possibility of arranging windscreen replacement on-site directly.

Before we delve further into our range of cheap car windows, let's take a look at the remarkable Croma and its break of almost a decade.

The first generation from 1985 to 1996

The first Fiat Croma was produced from 1985 to 1996 and was a 5-door hatchback (technically a liftback, as the roofline slopes down). The model was built on the Type 4 platform, just like the Alfa Romeo 164, the Lancia Thema and the Saab 9000. The Croma was supposed to replace the Fiat Argenta
as a larger family car. The first facelift came as early as 1988, but the biggest modification was that the indicator glass went from orange to transparent.

A much bigger facelift followed in 1991, with a completely new front end, only to be succeeded by another facelift after only two years. In 1996, Fiat pulled the plug on the model, mainly because the focus would shift to the Fiat Bravo, Fiat Brava and especially the Fiat Marea, which itself would become a larger family car.

A gap of a whopping 9(!) years

It seemed to be the end of the Croma, especially since the Bravo/Brava/Marea family was doing fine in the international market and nothing seemed to indicate that Fiat was still working on the Croma. However, connoisseurs of Fiat know that this was the period when Fiat was working hard to modernise and improve in order to compete with the big names in the European car market. And the Croma would become part of that.

The second version of the Fiat Croma

It is March 2005 and a new model arrives at dealerships. It is a longer, taller crossover with six seats and with knowledge of and parts from the Opel Vectra, Saab 9-3 and the Opel Signum. The name? Fiat Croma, but now fully aimed at the upper market segment as a large, complete family MPV.

How big a success has the Fiat Croma been?

Around 440,000 units were made of the first generation of the Fiat Croma, but almost all of these went to the home, Italian market, something Fiat did not envisage when developing the second generation. However, when less than 150,000 units of the second generation were sold and Italy again turned out to be the biggest buyer, the Croma turned out to be a success, but definitely not what Fiat was hoping for.

By comparison, only 10,000 units
of the Fiat Croma (both generations combined) were sold in the Netherlands. That makes the Croma score worse than the Fiat Tempra, Fiat Marea and the Fiat Regata,
and unfortunately, that's saying quite a lot.

Here, of course, we have the perfect opportunity to show two movies, as they are two unique, very different models. For the first one, we go way back into the old box, where the joke is mainly in the narrator's narration (something unthinkable these days, as TV viewers are guaranteed to miss the joke).

The second is a clip where you can see that Fiat wanted to openly compete and was working hard to improve Fiat's image and status. Slightly cheeky, but for that very reason a particularly successful advertisement.

When should the windscreen of the Fiat Croma be replaced?

Car damage is always annoying, especially with the average price of replacement car parts. Fortunately, there are always ways to save on costs. This also applies to windscreen damage, but first it is important to know when the windscreen actually needs to be replaced. This is the case with damage in the driver's field of vision, but only when this is a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres. With this windscreen damage, the car will also no longer pass the MOT.

In all other cases, you can choose to continue driving with a damaged windscreen, but do check the size from time to time. This is because if there are large differences in temperature between either side of the window, the windscreen may crack further, which can suddenly become particularly annoying or dangerous because of it.

What does a new Fiat Croma windscreen cost?

You already have a new Fiat Croma windscreen for €399 when you choose our after market windscreens. This is because these are much cheaper than the original windscreens for this model, while their quality is identical. Indeed, they are often even made in the same factories. However, original windscreens for Fiat come with a brand logo and while this does nothing for the glass itself, it does create an exclusive character that ultimately has to be paid for by the customer.

So if you want to make sure you choose automotive glass with the best value for money, you will end up with our replacement Fiat Croma windscreens. Thus, our new car windows are often still cheaper than used car windows.
