When it comes to unusual cars, the Fiat Multipla is definitely on the list, but only for the wrong reasons. In fact, the Fiat Multipla was called a car that would cause people to walk rather than drive this model. If you have a Fiat Multipla and need a windscreen replacement, you will find replacement automotive glass with the best value for money with us. Before we tell you how our windscreens are so cheap, let's take a look at the special model that won numerous awards.
The Fiat Multipla entered the market (Italy) in 1998 and was based on the Fiat Brava/Bravo, although the Mutipla was both shorter and wider. What was striking was that this model had 2 rows with 3 seats each, where all competitors opted for 3 rows with 2 seats each. Another striking fact was that the name was reused. In fact, between 1956 and 1967 Fiat already made a 600 Multipla, a particularly beautiful model, which now saw the name used for a type that would be proclaimed the ugliest car of all time.
Indeed, Fiat paid all the attention to the interior and dashboard, with everything needing space. When this did not seem to be there, an extra ‘bump’ on the bonnet on the side of the windscreen came in, which ensured that the model became... special.
In February 2018, The Sunday Times proclaimed the Multipla one of the ugliest cars, writing that the Elephant-Man exterior ensured that all the genius choices and designs of the car itself never really got the success it deserved. And that did a huge amount of damage to the model, as The Daily Telegraph revealed that it was only after the facelift (in which the exterior was modified and the type no longer resembled a badly drawn duck from a comic strip) that most buyers wanted to proceed with the purchase, as they would not be laughed at in the neighbourhood with this type.
That the model could have been much more successful if Fiat itself had just soberly looked at the drawings before the model went into production was soon shown on Top Gear. This programme is not known for love of Fiat or affordable cars, but the Fiat Multipla won the Family Car of the Year award four years in a row (2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004). In addition, the model became car of the year in 2000 at Top Gear, meaning that this was a rock-solid model from Fiat, but would never become a resounding success thanks to its ‘unique’ appearance.
Below is another Jeremy Clarkson who not only calls the Fiat Multipla a masterpiece, but also immediately writes off all its competitors.
Incidentally, Fiat did try to sell the model, including through this well thought-out advertisement in which even Schumacher was used to persuade people. And fair is fair, the advert shows very well that this is a special, unique model that is more than just ‘a car’.
Windscreen damage can cause very dangerous situations, especially when the damage in the windscreen is distracting or when incoming light can reflect unpredictably and blind you. But in which cases should the windscreen of your Fiat Multipla be replaced? This is the case when the damage is in the driver's field of vision and this is a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres or a branched crack. This windscreen damage will cause the car to be rejected at the next MOT.
If the damage is smaller or the chip or crack is in a different place, you can choose to continue driving with the damaged windscreen. Keep an eye on this though, as the damage may increase when the difference in temperature between either side of the window increases.
You already have a new Fiat Multipla windscreen for €299. This is considerably cheaper than the original Fiat windscreens, while the quality of the automotive glass is identical. The reason for the big price difference is in the brand logo in the original windows. Although the logo does nothing for the automotive glass, it does make for a much higher price because of its exclusive nature. Since we do not participate in this, you can always come to us for new automotive glass with the best value for money.
If you want to save on costs, there are many repair and maintenance jobs you can do yourself. However, replacing the windscreen does not belong in that list. If you are not a specialist and have no experience in replacing car windows, the risk of problems is simply too high. That is why we cooperate with professional fitting partners who replace car windows on-site, which means you never have to drive to a workshop with the car with a damaged windscreen. Our partners always come to you.
We also supply our after market car windows to professionals throughout the Netherlands and Belgium, which means you can also come to us for new windows without fitting. Many garage owners even choose to collect their order from us to save even more on costs. If you also want to collect your windscreen or directly collect a larger order for several customers of yours, this is always possible by appointment.
