Cheap windscreen replacement for your Fiat Punto

The Fiat Punto is one of the biggest successes of the Italian car brand, which managed to sell almost 9 million units throughout its production period. The Punto also became a resounding success in the Netherlands and there are still quite a few models driving around. Do you own a Fiat Punto and do you need to replace the windscreen? Then you can come to us for cheap car windows without compromising on quality. Before we look at the Fiat Punto windscreens we have on offer for you, let's take a look at this huge success of Fiat together.

The first generation of the Fiat Punto in 1993

In 1993, Fiat wanted to replace the ageing Fiat Uno and therefore launched the Fiat Punto. Its success was immediately obvious, as as early as 1995 this became European Car of the Year,
beating the (also) popular Volkswagen Polo. The irony was that the original design was actually meant to be a design for the new Renault Clio, but Renault chose a different design. Giugiaro,
the designer, then went only to Fiat and there the drawings were welcomed with open arms.

The Punto was immediately marketed as a 3- and 5-door hatchback, as well as a van and a convertible. This would contribute greatly to the model's success, as it soon became apparent that the Fiat Punto's market share was high because so many potential buyers were appealed to by its versatile range of models.

The second generation arrived as early as 1999

Six years after the birth of the Punto, the second generation was already on the market, a completely new design that did manage to stick to the original design. The model also immediately got a new chassis, new interior and new rear suspension. This generation also got the original round Fiat badge, something the carmaker had not done in decades.

In addition, the 1.1 and 1.4 litre engines were removed from the range and replaced by a 1.2 litre petrol and a 1.9 litre diesel.

When the 5 millionth model rolled out of the factory, the facelift also came in 2003 where the engines were modified, as was the exterior design. Less than two years later, the sales counter rolled over the 6 million mark.

2005: the third and final generation of the Fiat Punto

Another six years later came the third generation, but this one would get particularly new parts, as well as yet another new chassis and body. The name also changed to Fiat Grande Punto and numerous engines were added to the range, partly to meet the Euro 4 standard. The model would get a facelift in 2009, with the name changing to Fiat Punto Evo (although it was a facelift of the Fiat Grande Punto). In the process, the front end was modified, as were the rear lights, and it got a Blue&Me navigation system.

To further complicate matters, Fiat came out with a facelift in 2012 in which the model's name was changed back to Fiat Punto (without Grande and without Evo). However, it would not save the model, especially when Top Gear in 2014 declared the model one of the worst cars of the moment that was mostly outdated and out of date.

Nearly 9 million sales worldwide

The success of the Fiat Punto in absolute numbers:

  • Generation 1: around 3.5 million sales
  • Generation 2: around 3 million sales
  • Generation 3: almost 2.7 million sales

So the success of the Fiat Punto is huge, which is funny because this is a model that emerged from a design that was rejected by Renault because it would not be good enough. The versatile range, many equipment levels and several generations with big differences between them have undoubtedly contributed to the model's success.

Looking at the Netherlands, the Fiat Punto became a huge hit here too. With almost 133,000 units sold,
it is firmly in second place in the list of Fiat's best-selling models in the Netherlands. It has to give way to the Fiat Panda, but at the same time manages to keep behind the Fiat Uno and the Fiat 500 with ease.

Since Fiat has made many fun and playful advertisements, we always like to show you an original advertising video of the model. In the case of the Fiat Punto, this is easy, as numerous commercials have been made for the model and we have managed to find perhaps the most unusual ones for you.

When should the windscreen of your Fiat Punto be replaced?

There are numerous ways in which your car's windscreen can get damaged and the risk of windscreen damage is always present when you use your car regularly. However, it is not the case that in all cases, you will also have to look for a workshop immediately, as there are only two cases where the windscreen needs to be replaced of your Fiat Punto. These are when there is windscreen damage in the driver's field of vision involving a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres. In both cases, the Punto will in fact be rejected at the next MOT because the windscreen damage is too dangerous.

If the damage is in a different place or the size is limited, you may choose to continue driving with the damaged window, although at those times you can of course also choose to have the window replaced as it is safer and your car looks better with an intact, clean windscreen.

What does a new windscreen for the Fiat Punto cost?

You already have a new Fiat Punto windscreen for €299. This is considerably cheaper than what the Fiat dealer will tell you, while the quality of the automotive glass is identical. The original windscreens are much more expensive and this is due to the brand logo that is incorporated in this automotive glass. That logo does nothing for the glass, but it does create an exclusive character that is ultimately borne by the buyer.

Our after market automotive glass does not have a brand logo and this allows us to offer our Fiat Punto windscreens significantly cheaper. The price difference is so great that our new windscreens are often still cheaper than second-hand automotive glass.
