Cheap windscreen replacement for your Fiat Tipo or Fiat Tempra

The Fiat Tipo has been a great success for Fiat, as has its derivative Fiat Tempra. In the Netherlands, sales of both models run into the tens of thousands and the models were also particularly popular on the second-hand market. Do you have a Tipo or Tempra and need to replace the windscreen? Then our after market automotive glass is the best choice. This is because our car windows always offer the best value for money, and you can also come to us for on-site windscreen replacement.

Before we tell you all about it, let's take a look at the two successful models from Italy that are still remembered by many a Fiat enthusiast.

Two different production cycles

When we look at the Fiat Tipo, there are two separate production cycles, which the Fiat Tempra also came in between. Since these models are all related and the windscreens for these models are (partly) interchangeable, we have brought the models together on this page.

1988-2000: the first Fiat Tipo enters the market

Fiat surprised friend and foe with the Tipo in 1988, a model made of galvanised panels to give rust no chance and an angular design that ensured there was more space than in the larger Ford Sierra, even though the Tipo was not much bigger than the Ford Escort. To that end, the Tipo was built on a completely new platform and the compact car was immediately launched in several versions. Its success was immediately evident, as the models constantly drove away from dealerships. In Brazil, the Fiat Tipo even managed to beat the Volkswagen Gol
(not to be confused with the Volkswagen Golf), a model that had been the best-selling model for over 20 years.

The new model the Tipo was built on was also used for a number of other models that you probably recognise:

1990 to 2002: the Fiat Tempra

The Fiat Tempra also evolved from the Fiat Tipo and was a small family car, so actually mainly a longer, larger version of the Tipo. The idea was to put the Tempra right in between the smaller Tipo and larger Fiat Croma.

The model entered the market in 1990 and only had two versions, the S (standard) and the SX, but since the Tempra (like the Tipo) was to be marketed mainly as a cheap entry-level model, these versions were not very luxurious. Eventually, after a few years, more options would appear, such as the SX A and AK, in which climate control was added. Production ceased in 1999 and the last models would disappear from dealerships in 2002.

2015: an all-new Fiat Tipo

In 2015, an all-new Fiat Tipo was launched, also known as the The Project Ægea (also known as the simplified Fiat Egea). The model immediately entered the market as a sedan, estate and a hatchback, which contributed greatly to its success. When the model also got a facelift in 2021, with better safety, more engines and a new Cross version, the model was ready to conquer the market(s) for a few more years.

A 48V electric motor was also added in 2022, giving Fiat a big step into the hybrid car market. Indeed, the engine was so good that the petrol engine was not needed almost half the time. That made this not a mild-hybrid (which was the approach), but a full-hybrid with low emissions and very strong average fuel consumption.

The huge success of the Fiat Tipo/Tempra

The success of the three different types and different versions, is hard to fathom. For instance, the 2015 Tipo became the best-selling car in Turkey nine years in a row, the first Tipo and Tempra managed to conquer markets in South America and even in the Netherlands, it is clear that these are very popular models. At the time of writing, the Tipo and Tempra together have been sold around 50,000 times in the Netherlands, together leaving the Fiat Seicento and Fiat Ritmo
easily behind. At the same time, the Tipo and Tempra do not come close to the success of the related Fiat Uno and Fiat 500, which showed almost twice as many sales in the Netherlands.

Cars like the Tipo are no longer made today. And we can say the same about the advertisement for this model, because not only does it seek the edge, it is also old-fashioned funny.

When does the windscreen of your Fiat Tipo or Tempra need replacing?

The windscreen of your Tipo or Tempra should be replaced when there is damage in the windscreen, it is in the driver's field of vision and it is a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of 20 millimetres or more. In fact, at this location and size of the windscreen damage, the car will no longer pass the MOT as it is too dangerous. In all other cases, you can choose to continue driving with the windscreen damage, although it may be wise to first check below to see what a new windscreen would cost you if you choose us.

What does a new Fiat Tipo/Tempra windscreen cost?

In fact, you already have a new windscreen for your Fiat Tipo or Tempra for €299. That makes our car windows much cheaper than the automotive glass the Fiat dealer has lying around, and there's a somewhat surprising reason for that. This is because the quality of the car windows is identical, but the brand logo in the original windows provides an exclusive character that comes at the buyer's expense.

Since our windscreens have no unnecessarily exclusive brand logo, you will always find automotive glass with the best value for money with us. The price difference with original windows is so great that our products are often still cheaper than second-hand car windows.

Is replacing the Fiat Tipo or Tempra windscreen yourself a good option?

Replacing your car windscreen yourself may seem like a good option to save on costs, but it is not if you have no experience in car windscreen replacement. What's more, the costs can go up considerably if a small error in judgement damages your car and the new windscreen. Correct fitting is also important, which is why we work with professional fitting partners who replace car windows on-site.

Do you want to replace your Fiat Tipo or Fiat Tempra windscreen yourself? Then of course you can also come to us for new car windows excluding fitting.
