The Ford C-Max (Ford Focus C-Max) is not an exciting, spectacular model. It is a car model Ford is known for: solid, reliable and available in numerous versions so there would always be a suitable C-Max for any Ford enthusiast. Many examples can still be found on Dutch roads at the moment, despite production being halted as early as 2019. When Ford showed the new model in 2003, no one was actually surprised. The 'new' Ford Focus C-Max was nothing but the MPV version of the Ford Focus, and the Ford Grand C-Max, in turn, was a Ford Focus C-Max with a longer wheelbase. Still, this was a logical move by the carmaker, which used it to market a taller, roomier model. The Americans decided to launch the model series exclusively in the European market first.
With the facelift of the first generation in 2006, the biggest adjustment was the name. Before the facelift, the model was called 'Ford Focus C-Max' but during the facelift, 'Focus' was removed from the name. This was because Ford wanted to set up a separate Max line and so this had to be a stand-alone series. Modifications to the car related solely to the 'kinetic design' with which the US carmaker wanted to bring the model in line with newer designs.
The second generation of the Ford C-Max came at the same time as the third generation of the Ford Focus. The C-Max was now available not only as a 5-seater, but also as a 7-seater (although it would never be marketed in America). This was also when Ford decided to bring the model to its own market after it took the Ford Escape Hybrid and Mercury Mariner Hybrid off the market and replaced them with the hybrid C-Max. The C-Max Hybrid arrived at dealerships in 2012 (model year 2013).
Of course, the Ford C-Max is not in the top five best-selling Ford models in the Netherlands. Those positions are occupied by legendary models such as the Ford Escort, Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus. However, with 25,000 units sold, the C-Max still did just fine, leaving models like the Ford Orion and Ford Fusion behind.
Especially in the United States, records were broken by the C-Max, despite the fact that it would only enter the market there much later. The hybrid line was very successful there, selling more than 70,000 units. The problems with EPA (fuel economy) scores did put a big brake on the C-Max's success.

For instance, there are videos highlighting the increased wheelbase, promos highlighting the fact that the Ford C-Max is fully customisable as well as economical. And then there are videos that just make us happy.
