The Ford Focus has often been called one of the dullest, most solid and uninspired car models ever made. Ironically, therein lies a huge part of the success of the model that managed to conquer a huge market share within a few decades and proved that Ford was indeed able to draw a plan and then successfully (with an interruption admittedly) stick to it.
The Ford Focus is a great success, partly in the Netherlands. Do you have a Ford Focus and does your Focus need a windscreen replacement? Then you can find cheap automotive glass from us that is identical in quality to the windscreens at your Ford dealer. Before we look at our automotive glass prices, let's take a look at the special Ford Focus to see how it could become such a great success.
Designed primarily by Ford's German and UK team, the Ford Focus was to be the successor to the Ford Escort, which at the time was one of Ford's best-selling models of all time. The idea was to make one model for the global market and not have numerous versions side by side intended for specific markets.
In 2004, Ford launched the second generation, which would have the same suspension. The interior was completely modified (in line with the Ford Mondeo and Ford Fiesta), which was possible because of the longer wheelbase. This not only made the car significantly larger, but also heavier, which users said had a detrimental effect on handling and made it more rigid.
Once again, Ford decided to go a different route for North America. Only the 2-door coupe and 4-door sedan entered the market here, and the interior differed from models elsewhere in the world. In addition, this model was never marketed as a 'second generation' in North America, as it was still on the same platform as of 2007.
In 2010, Ford reread the original plans and the US carmaker decided to once again equalise all models worldwide after all. The North American models were completely withdrawn from production and replaced by the third generation, which was simultaneously put in dealerships in Europe.
The third generation got a new engine at introduction (2.0 litre) and the top model, the Ford Focus RS, was equipped with all-wheel drive that could also switch fully to rear-wheel drive when needed.
In April 2020, the curtain finally fell on the Ford Focus RS as emissions taxes and regulations in Europe made the model undesirable. In October 2021, the Ford Focus got another facelift (exclusively for the European market, partly because the Focus had already been removed from the range in America). A year later, Ford announced that production of the Focus would cease worldwide in 2025. From the announcement, Ford wanted to focus on electric cars and crossovers, which appeared to be in much greater demand in today's car market.
In the Netherlands, with some 270,000 units sold, the Focus is by far in the top three, effortlessly leaving the Ford Mondeo behind. However, the gap with the Ford Fiesta and Ford Escort is too big to catch up with, especially with the lacklustre sales figures lately. As a result, the Ford Escort will in all likelihood still be the front-runner for the top 3 best-selling Ford models in the Netherlands even in 2025 (when the model will be taken out of production). And that is impressive, especially when you dive back in time and go to the first advertisements that were supposed to make the Ford Focus interesting, in which Colin McRae (British rally racer) and the Focus shone.
While a chipped windscreen can be particularly annoying while driving, not all windscreen damage is grounds for rejection at the MOT. The windscreen of your Ford Focus should be replaced if the damage is in the driver's field of vision and there is a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres. If the glass damage is more limited or not in the driver's field of vision, the car will not be rejected during the inspection.
However, it is wise to remain honest when estimating how inconvenient the damaged window is while driving. Not only does a chip or crack in the windscreen distract while driving, it also causes incoming light to be reflected in unpredictable ways. In many cases, windscreen damage is not a reason for rejection, but it is nevertheless wise to have the windscreen replaced. Especially when you know what a new after market windscreen for your Ford Focus costs from us.
You already have a new windscreen for your Ford Focus for €299. Of course, the total price depends on the model year you have, the windscreen you choose and whether you order the new windscreen including fitting and/or delivery from us. Windscreen replacement is work for specialists; replacing a windscreen yourself is not something you can do yourself 'in between'. If you make a mistake while disassembling or fitting it, you could damage both your car and the new windscreen. Failing to fit the new windscreen properly could lead to unsafe situations in traffic, with the windscreen even coming loose. To make things easy for you, we work together with certified installation partners who replace car windows on location throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. You will already see the exact costs for this when you place your order with us.
Do you have a lot of experience with car window replacement or do you know someone who can replace the windscreen for you? Then you can also order your new windscreen(s) excluding fitting. Would you like to purchase several windscreens at once (we work together with numerous garage owners who do this) or are you located nearby? Then you can even collect the windows from us by appointment to save even more on costs.
If you choose window replacement by our fitting partners, you have nothing to worry about. We settle your payment with our partners and they simply replace the windscreen of your Ford Focus at the (public, accessible) spot where your car is parked. Car windscreen replacement at home is therefore simply possible, as is windscreen replacement while you are at work.
