The Ford Galaxy, part of badge engineering under no less than three names, which when introduced was already proclaimed by Top Gear to be the least pleasant car on the market, and yet became a sales success, especially after breaking ties with Volkswagen. In many ways, Ford's Galaxy is a unique and striking model. Do you own one of these cars and need its windscreen replaced? Then you can find new windscreens for this model from as little as €399 with us. Before looking at our cheap car windows, let's take a look at Ford's Galaxy, which was never meant for the spotlight.
The first generation of the Ford Galaxy was not a unique model and, in fairness, cannot be called a Ford. The model came about within a partnership with Volkswagen Group alongside the Seat Alhambra and the Volkswagen Sharan. The models were built using almost only parts made by Volkswagen, including the engines. To still make it a bit Ford, the Americans removed the emblem from the engines and put a Ford sticker on them. Later, the 2.3-litre 16-valve from the facelifted Ford Scorpio was added to the engine range. Ford did have a lot of influence on the front end styling and used the Scorpio's design for it, so it still had little work to do on it.
The model entered the market in 1995 and came out of Top Gear research as the absolute number one most boring car in all of Britain. Ironically, this model simultaneously became the best-selling MPV in Britain and the Ford Galaxy even managed to beat the sales figures of the Volkswagen Sharan.
The first generation got a few more tweaks and facelifts, but we jump to 2006 to go to the second generation of the Ford Galaxy. With good reason too, because Ford had exactly cut ties with Volkswagen and launched a completely new Galaxy, made with its own parts and its own engines. The biggest achievement of this generation was that Ford made the Galaxy bigger in all directions and did not lose market share in the process, even when this model entered the market alongside the Ford S-Max.
One of the biggest advantages of the S-Max and second-generation Galaxy was the FoldFlatSystem. This system allowed the two rear seats to be completely folded into the floor, suddenly giving the MPV numerous additional major advantages.
The third generation in 2015 was mainly a fresher model line with a more modern look (and particularly similar to the Ford S-Max), but was only fitted with one diesel engine and two petrol engines. Incidentally, the Turbo 2.0 TDCi 210 with Powershift gearbox gained much fame. This engine got the bulky, big Galaxy from 0 to 60 (kilometres per hour) in less than 9 seconds.
In 2020 came a facelift that gave the Galaxy the same bumpers as the Ford Mondeo, Ford Focus, Ford Fiesta, Ford Puma and the Ford Kuga. The model also got a new automatic gearbox and a better infotainment system (including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto). A hybrid engine joined the range in 2021, but just a year later Ford announced the end of the Galaxy. The Galaxy never got a direct successor, as Ford dropped the MPV model line and focused on the demand for smaller, more fuel-efficient cars and electric-powered passenger cars.
Ford's MPV was placed on a tricky market segment, namely the larger family cars, with the Americans betting entirely on Volkswagen's solid base, which was mostly called incredibly boring. At the same time, the model has been a resounding success in Britain and sales figures in the Netherlands are not at all disappointing. In fact, almost 15,000 units were sold in our country. With that, the Galaxy scores just a little less than the Ford Focus C-Max and the Ford Kuga.
The windscreen of the Ford Galaxy needs to be replaced when there is a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres or a branched crack in the driver's field of vision. This is because in these cases, the car will be rejected at the MOT because the chipped windscreen is too bothersome and dangerous while driving. If the windscreen damage is smaller or in another place, the car will not be rejected because of the damage.
In these cases, you should take a critical look at the extent to which the glass damage hinders or distracts you while driving. A whole, clean windscreen ensures that you can see everything in time and drive relaxed.
You already have a new windscreen for the Ford Galaxy for €399. This is the windscreen for the first generation and is therefore also suitable for the Volkswagen Sharan and Seat Alhambra. The price includes VAT, but excludes delivery and fitting. However, the page immediately adjusts the price when you indicate your preferences. That way, you can always immediately see what you are paying and what is the cheapest option for your situation.
We also offer our windscreens excluding fitting. Are you a car window specialist or garage owner, or do you know someone who can replace the windscreen for you? Then you can also order all cheap car windows from us excluding fitting. If desired, you can even collect the windscreens from us (by appointment).
Not sure if you can replace the windscreen yourself or considering looking for a manual online on how to replace a Ford Galaxy windscreen? If so, we strongly discourage you from getting started with your windscreen replacement yourself. Replacing a car window yourself is often fine, but not when it comes to a windscreen. Improper fitting can cause the windscreen to come loose during abrupt braking and may even cause damage to the car.
Fortunately, you don't have to deal with your Ford Galaxy's windscreen either. In fact, when you order a new windscreen from us, you can opt directly for on-site windscreen replacement by one of our certified fitting partners. This can be done in your driveway or in the car park of the company where you are currently working.
