Windscreen replacement for your Opel Crossland X

The Opel Crossland X is one of the many models that came out of the collaboration with PSA. This type was released in 2017, among the many strong models of the competitors with whom Opel and PSA wanted to compete together. And in a way this was successful, as the Crossland already scored well in Europe in the introduction phase. If you need to replace the windscreen of your Opel Crossland X, you can go to the after market, where the prices for a new Opel Crossland X windscreen are surprisingly low.

Before we go into this in more detail, we'll look at this special type, where the entry-level model broke down and the other types turned out to be very pleasant SUV models.

Opel Crossland X, badge engineering or not?

When the Opel Crossland X was introduced to the market, car enthusiasts looked critically at this model. It is the first model Opel produced after it was taken over by PSA
and it was feared for a French example of badge engineering. Not surprising given Peugeot's reputation, of course, but although the platform (PSA PF1 platform) and the exterior clearly match those of the Peugeot 2008 and the Citroën C3 Aircross, Opel has had a hand in the interior itself. Except for the navigation screen, which has been copied 1:1 from PSA.

The Opel Crossland X is the successor of the Opel Meriva (an MPV and no crossover). The Crossland was placed on the market next to the Opel Mokka X, but it is available with four-wheel drive. The Opel Crossland X is only available with front-wheel drive. There has been a lot of criticism on the entry engine. The 86 hp without turbo for the relatively heavy SUV is simply not enough. And a maximum tractive force of 650 kilograms is actually a joke: an average trailer with some load shouldn't be taken with you when you choose the entry-level model. After all, an average double axle already has a weight of 500 kilos. With the exception of the entry level model, all other types have 110 hp or more - and those types are much better sold, of course.

Particularly many options for the Opel Crossland X

The entry-level model was not recommended, also because it does not have a turbo. Anyone who spent a little more money on the purchase (or lease) of the Opel Crossland X, could indulge themselves in the brochure. Because Opel has made a lot of equipment levels, packages, options and expansions available for this model. This is no surprise, if you want to compete with the Ssangyong Tivoli and the Renault Captur, you have to offer more than one SUV.

The Innovation+ package was a real success. For just € 1000 extra, your Crossland was equipped with blind spot assistance, ergonomic front seats, parking aids, a rear seat that can be moved and has a third headrest, a reversing camera and a double loading floor. In addition, the Opel OnStar system was of course also available at an extra charge for the Crossland models of Opel.

The success of the Opel Crossland X

The Opel Crossland X can easily be called a Peugeot 2008, but with a considerably better interior design and more options. But unfortunately Opel had to opt for the PSA engine package, so that the 1.2 litre 86hp has entered the entry level model as a joy killer for the sporty rider - or someone who wants to take luggage with him on the motorway, because the number of revs is easily over 4000 at 130 kilometres per hour.

This is not the model Opel used in advertising, which clearly focused on the 'German' character of the car. Even Jürgen Klopp
was used to emphasize this and to put the SUV line of Opel more in the limelight:

The advantages of the other versions have, however, been clearly demonstrated to the car enthusiast and as a result, the Opel Crossland X has already been sold more than 86,000 times in Europe in the first two years that this model was on the market. This means that this model scores better than the larger Opel Grandland X, but it can't even come close to the unprecedented success of the Renault Captur in Europe.

When should an Opel Crossland X windscreen be replaced?

The windscreen of the Opel Crossland X is a laminated or layered windscreen. This means that the windscreen does not disintegrate in the event of damage to the windscreen, because the layer of film between the two layers of glass keeps the windscreen together. If you have window damage in the windscreen of your Opel Crossland X, this does not mean that the windscreen should be replaced immediately. The windscreen of the Opel Crossland X must be replaced if there is any damage to the windscreen in the driver's field of vision, when:

  1. This is an asterisk with a diameter of 20 millimetres or more
  2. This is a branched crack

The manual of the national road traffic authority of the Netherlands ('RDW') states that two cracks that cross each other in the driver's field of vision are always rejected during the vehicle inspection. Even if they are not in the same layer of the windscreen.  This has everything to do with the fact that light is reflected in an unpredictable way by window damage.

Can I replace the windscreen of my Opel Crossland X myself?

If you're not sure, the answer is always no. Replacing a windscreen is a job for the specialists, because an incorrectly fitted windscreen can come loose or leak. You can replace a car window yourself when it comes to one of the side windows of the Opel Crossland X. For this you need much less technical knowledge because these car windows are placed in a mechanism.

Opel windscreens come standard with a brand logo. This brand logo ensures that these windows can only be sold by the Opel dealer. Thanks to this exclusive character, the price of the automotive glass is higher.
