The Opel Grandland X is a striking appearance of the German car manufacturer. Especially since this model looks a lot like a Peugeot model. If you need to replace the windscreen of your Opel Grandland X, you can go to the after market. Here you will find the best value for money for all car models.
Before we look at the possibilities on the after market, we first look at the Opel Grandland X. What model of PSA was the big example when Opel set up this model and how successful was this type at the introduction?
The Opel Grandland X is a compact SUV, just like the Mokka X that was launched just before the Grandland. The Opel Grandland X is just under 4.5 metres long and ends up in the C-segment under the SUVs.
100% badge engineering cannot be blamed on the Opel Grandland X. Opel and PSA have been working together for a long time (since 2012) and Opel knew where the weaknesses would lie when developing this model. This is why adjustments have been made to the chassis, the response to steering movements is more direct than in the Peugeot and Opel has chosen to use its own Opel OnStar system, together with the LED AFL headlights. And as the icing on the cake, the ergonomic AGR seats are standard in the Dynamic version. Not an unnecessary luxury, because Peugeot has repeatedly been criticised for the old-fashioned and Spartan seats in the newer models. The disadvantage is that these Opel seats are only standard in the most expensive version of the Grandland X.
There are no deviations in terms of engines. Here everything is just French. A 1.2 litre three-cylinder with 130 hp or the diesel with 1.6 litre and 120 hp as entry-level models, and a manual gearbox with six gears - or an automatic at extra cost.
The Opel Grandland X is available in three versions. The basic version is the stripped-down version without options. More options have been added to the Opel Grandland X Enjoy and the fully equipped version of the Grandland has been given the name Dynamic.
In 2018 more than 77,000 copies of the Opel Grandland X were sold and in 2019 the sales figures in Europe were even better. But does this mean that the Grandland has become a success? Not really. The equipment of the car is clearly more German than French and that is a big advantage. The comfort for the driver has been considered. But the fact that PSA introduced this type to the market at a time when there was a lot of criticism about the badge engineering from France, has had a considerable impact on the sales success. The fact that the Peugeot 3008 became the car of the year 2017 did not benefit the Opel Grandland X either.
It has to be admitted that this type of car has been placed in a very busy market. The market where for example the Nissan Qashqai and the Volkswagen Tiguan have already made themselves very broad. The fact that Opel has sold so many models on European soil says enough about the appeal of the Grandland X.
Car window damage is always annoying, but it is not necessary to replace the windscreen at every crack, according to the law. If we look at the guidelines of the Dutch national road traffic authority ('RDW'), this clearly states that the windscreen of the Opel Grandland X must be replaced when there is damage to the windscreen in the driver's field of vision and this:
This is all about window damage in the driver's field of vision and there is a reason for this: the driver may be blinded by sunlight or the headlights of oncoming vehicles if the light is reflected in an unpredictable way by a crack or star.
Replacing a windscreen yourself is only a good idea if you have a lot of experience in windscreen replacement. If the windscreen of your Opel Grandland X is not replaced in the right way, it can come loose when you have to brake abruptly. Also, an incorrectly fitted windscreen can leak, causing damage to the upholstery and the electronics in the car. Since you always notice this too late, the damage is already extensive when you see that the windscreen is leaking.
Are you a car mechanic and/or do you have a lot of experience with replacing car windows? You can buy any car window on our website without installation. If desired, you can even pick up all car windows from us.
If the windscreen of your Opel Grandland X needs to be replaced and you want to save on costs, then fitting it yourself is not an option. However, you can easily save money by opting for a low-cost automotive glass, without compromising on quality of course. However, you will not find these car windows at the Opel or PSA dealer, because only car windows with a brand logo are sold there.
This brand logo ensures that the automotive glass can only be sold by an official dealer. Furthermore, this logo does nothing at all for the car window. After market automotive glass does not bear a brand logo, but meets the same requirements as Opel brand windscreens. They are often made in the same factories, even with the same machines. But due to the lack of a brand logo, the price of after market car windows is much lower. In fact, our new windscreens are often cheaper than used windscreens with a brand logo!
