The Peugeot 107 has been part of a major project to make affordable, compact cars. You will notice this when the windscreen of the Peugeot 107 needs to be replaced, because a new windscreen doesn't have to cost € 230 yet. Not a second-hand window, but just a brand new windscreen for the Peugeot 107 via the after market.
Before we look further at this, we take a closer look at the Peugeot 107. Which car manufacturers worked together to make this project possible, which car was the main competitor and has the 107 become the success that PSA hoped for?
What is the result of such a cooperation? Ultimately an enormous sales success. The small cars turned out to be perfect for city traffic and with their low fuel consumption, the interest of many was quickly aroused. Certainly because the manufacturers switched quickly and responded to the market. In the Netherlands, for example, the diesel engine was quickly taken off the market because the petrol variant was so cheap that it was not worth choosing the diesel.
Yes, it was. The Toyota Aygo led the rankings, but also for Peugeot the 107 has become a strong player in the portfolio. An impressive 765,000 copies were sold in Europe, making it an even more successful model than the equally successful Peugeot 306.
Peugeot's figures are distorted by the way. The second generation was launched in 2014, with the C1 and Aygo retaining their names. Because at Peugeot the third number in the type number always indicates the generation, the second generation of the 107 has become the 108. Instead of a new car, the 108 is just the second generation of the Peugeot 107.
For those who find the competition between these two interesting, Auto Express has put both models opposite each other in a test.
As long as there are no adults in the back of the car, it is a fine car with plenty of space. When people have to take their seats in the back seat, you have to rely on the boot for the luggage that has to be carried. And that's where the cooperation partners have dropped the stings. This has become a real city car (which fortunately has become available as a 5-door, in contrast to the UP!). This can clearly be seen in the choice of cheaper materials, the small boot and limited space on the back seat. And probably also the fact that the air conditioning is missing in the standard version of the 107.
When the windscreen no longer meets the legal requirements, the windscreen must be replaced. In most cases, these are large asterisks or branched cracks in the driver's field of vision that can no longer be repaired.
The reason why driving with a crack in the windscreen is not allowed when it is in the driver's field of vision is as follows. Light is reflected in an unpredictable way when there is damage to the windscreen. If you are blinded as a driver while driving, the risk of an accident is immediately many times greater than if you are driving without window damage in your direct field of vision.
If you have an asterisk or a crack outside the driver's field of vision, it is in most cases not legally required to replace the windscreen immediately.
If you are a car mechanic or have years of experience in replacing car windows, you can indeed do this yourself. In all other cases, we strongly advise you to have the windscreen replaced by a specialist. You can, however, replace the car window yourself when it comes to a side window, because these are much easier to dismantle and assemble.
The windscreen, on the other hand, needs to be professionally fitted, which requires experience. It is very important that it is securely fastened and that it is installed in the right way. If this is not the case, the windscreen can come loose in case of heavy braking or an accident. An incorrectly fitted windscreen can also cause leakage.
If you choose after market automotive glass, you pay less than € 250 for a new windscreen for your Peugeot 107. Or your Citroën C1 or Toyota Aygo, because all these windscreens are identical. After market windscreens for the Peugeot 107 do not bear the brand logo and can therefore also be sold outside dealerships. This immediately saves you hundreds of euros. The prices of these after market car windows are so sharp that many second-hand car windows are still more expensive than our new windscreens.
