Windscreen replacement for your Peugeot 407

The Peugeot 407 is a special model from the French car manufacturer. The design of this type is simply daring, but it has never been a huge success. If you need to replace the windscreen of your Peugeot 407, you can still go to the after market. You can find windscreens for the Peugeot 407 for only € 499, a lot cheaper than at the PSA
dealer.

How this is possible and what the options are, we will gladly tell you after we have looked at this special model. Why didn't the daring PSA model ever become a success?

The Peugeot 407: introduction in 2004

The Peugeot 407 was the successor of the Peugeot 406. A predecessor with a big name, because despite the poor sales success in the Netherlands, the Peugeot 406 has been a success in Europe. The 407 was like the 406 a middle class car and was a few months after the introduction also released as a station wagon. The production of the Peugeot 407 would eventually be stopped in 2011, so that the counter would never break through the 750,000 units sold in Europe.

The Peugeot 407 was together with the Peugeot 607 succeeded by the Peugeot 508, which was placed exactly between the middle class and larger 607.

An exciting Peugeot?

During the introduction at the Sunday Times Motorshow Live on 27 May 2004, Peugeot surprised friend and foe. The Peugeot 407 looked more like a concept car or a model from another manufacturer. That's how different this model is, characterised by a huge front grille, a streamlined design and front pillars that run very steeply. Exactly everything Peugeot is not known for.

The 407 has been released in different versions. The best known models are the SW or station wagon, the coupé version and of course the sedan, which was the first on the market. 2005 was the top year for the Peugeot 407 with 259,000 sales, but this would soon decline.

What was the problem with the Peugeot 407?

Peugeot decided to use the 2.0 litre 137 hp engine in the first models. That seemed a wise choice, because this is one of the most used engines in the Peugeot range. What was missed, however, was that this engine had never been used before on a model that was so heavy (1500 kilos empty weight). The result was that the Peugeot 407 itself was quite slow, but with trailer, caravan or a lot of luggage it really had problems with its performance.

In addition, the engine was so old at the time of its introduction that it did not meet the environmental requirements any more in no time. And these are surprises that Peugeot doesn't make customers happy with. Peugeot immediately offered a 2.2 litre engine as an alternative. This engine has 23 hp more and offers more torque, so that the car reacts considerably better. The extra price for a model with this engine: just over € 1000 at the introduction at the dealers.

At the facelift in August 2008 almost all petrol engines were removed from the range for the Peugeot 407. There was also a special model on the market with AMVAR. This is a system with electronic shock absorbers that operates each shock absorber separately. Every 2.5 seconds the shock absorber is reset to make the journey as comfortable as possible.

Another problem was that Peugeot clearly stepped away from its own design. When a Peugeot no longer looks like a Peugeot model (and yet is just a Peugeot), the target group becomes very small. After this striking design, Peugeot returned to its own style with the 607.

Does the windscreen of my Peugeot 407 need to be replaced?

A crack in the windscreen is not always rejected at the MOT. And even with several asterisks you can continue to drive, unless the car window damage is outside the permitted limits of the law. In any case, the windscreen must always be replaced when:

  • There is an asterisk greater than 20 millimetres in the driver's field of vision
  • A branched crack in the driver's field of vision in the windscreen is present

Do you see an occasion with windscreen damage that is not permitted by law or does your 407 have an oversized asterisk or branched crack in the windscreen? Then the windscreen of your Peugeot needs to be replaced. If you want to replace the car window cheaply, you will find the best price/quality ratio on the after market.

How can I replace the Peugeot windscreen as cheaply as possible?

By choosing the after market windscreens that we have on our website. After market automotive glass does not have a brand logo, which means that it may not only be sold by PSA dealers. As the brand logo and exclusivity are missing, the prices for after market Peugeot windscreens are much lower. Many second-hand car windows with a brand logo cost more than the Peugeot car windows in our range.

The advantages of after market automotive glass over a second-hand branded window:

  1. After market automotive glass is often cheaper
  2. Four-year warranty on the car windows
  3. Installation by certified fitting partners
  4. Clear database making it easy to find the right windscreen
  5. Always a professional customer service

Can I replace the windscreen of my Peugeot 407 myself?

If you're not sure, it's wise not to do this. Removing and fitting windscreens is a job for the specialists. A correctly fitted windscreen will not come loose during powerful braking and will not leak over time. A side window replacement of the Peugeot 407 is in most cases possible by yourself, but replacing the windscreen is a job for the experts.

Are you a car mechanic or do you know someone who has a lot of experience with windscreen replacement? Then you can also order the Peugeot 407 windscreen from us without installation. Your order can be picked up or delivered to you with ease.

What does a new Peugeot 407 windscreen cost?

You already have a new Peugeot 407 windscreen for € 499, excluding delivery and installation. If you want our certified fitting partners to install the windscreen, the total price will be € 619 within the Netherlands. If you are in a hurry, then the windscreen can be fitted within 24 hours for a small extra charge.
