The Peugeot 5008 is a striking appearance in which PSA has plunged deep into the world of the MPV. To then find out that the SUV models were much sought after and that Peugeot could return to the drawing board for the second generation. Should the windscreen of your Peugeot 5008 be replaced? At the after market, you will have a new windscreen (exchangeable with the windscreen for the Peugeot 3008) for € 399.
Before we go to the after market, we look back on this special Peugeot model. Was the Peugeot 5008 a success and what problems ensured that the competitors never felt any threat from France?
Peugeot is known as a stubborn brand, where it is often noticed just a little too late what the market really wants. The Peugeot 5008 is a great example of this. In 2009 the model was shown in Frankfurt, where it was immediately clear that this type was built as the spitting image of the reasonably successful Citroën C4 Picasso. The type was declared MPV Car of the Year in 2010 and already in 2012 more than 200,000 copies of the 5008 were built.
But that's where sales began to decline. Just like the Peugeot 3008 by the way, which was marketed as a 'midi-SUV', but actually was also an MPV model. The competitors had already made the step to the cross-overs and SUVs. The Volkswagen Sharan, Seat Alhambra and Ford Galaxy were already firmly in the segment. And four (!) years later the second generation of the Peugeot 5008 finally arrived. As an SUV of course, but why this type could also be called 5008, that was the question for many.
The second generation of the Peugeot 3008 was not 3009 and the second generation of the 5008 was not 5009. But what is really striking is that the second generation of the 5008 just became an extended version of the Peugeot 3008 and had less in common with its own first generation. The second generation of the Peugeot 5008 is 19 centimetres longer than the Peugeot 3008 and weighs 160 kilograms more.
But Peugeot took up one point of criticism very well. The Peugeot 3008 received a lot of criticism on the back seats. This is a 60/40 that is not adjustable - and that doesn't really fit in these times anymore. That's why the Peugeot 5008 was fitted with a completely new rear seat that can be divided into three equal parts, with all the seats adjustable. A third second backseat (third row of seats) is also available as an option. However, there is so little space here that only small children can sit. Don't choose a 7-seater, but just a 5-seater Peugeot 5008 from the second generation? Then you have a luggage space of no less than 720 litres, 160 litres more than the Peugeot 3008.
The Peugeot 5008 was introduced as the model for everyone who wanted luxury, comfort and space. But Peugeot has never been able to achieve this. The heavy and long car doesn't come with four-wheel drive, because Peugeot simply doesn't do that. Peugeot's solution is Advanced Grip Control, together with Hill Descent Control. But this is not standard on the Peugeot 5008 and is only optional.
Is that all? No, because the i-Cockpit has still not been modified. It may seem like a minor problem, but how much patience do you have when you have to close the navigation system every time you need to adjust the climate control position in the car by one degree?
The Peugeot 5008 was sold just under 460,000 times in Europe. This seems to be disappointing, but given the size of the car, the demand for this type is by definition smaller in the Netherlands than in neighbouring countries such as Germany and Sweden. By way of comparison: the Ford Galaxy was sold 14,000 times in the Netherlands, the Volkswagen Sharan barely exceeded the 10,000 copies in the Netherlands. Throughout Europe the Peugeot 5008 was sold just under 460,000 times until 2019.
Window damage is particularly annoying, but driving with a crack in the windscreen is just allowed if it stays within the limits. Just like driving on with an asterisk. In some cases, however, this is a disapproval for the car inspection, which means that you are not allowed to drive in traffic with the car. The Dutch national road traffic authority ('RDW') manual states that you are not allowed to continue driving in the event of windscreen damage in the driver's field of vision when:
Is this the case? Then the windscreen has to be replaced immediately, because the car no longer meets the requirements. But buying a car window isn't as difficult as you might think.
You can buy windscreens online from us. Simply select the model of car you are driving and you will see all available rear, side and windscreens on the page. Since we only offer after market automotive glass, the prices are much lower than the brand glass of your Peugeot dealer.
There is one small difference that causes a huge price advantage. The Peugeot dealer's brand windows feature a brand logo. This brand logo does nothing for your windscreen, but ensures that these car windows can only be sold by the brand dealer. And that makes the price high.
If you choose after market car windows, you get the best value for money:
No, replacing windscreens is a job for the experts. If the windscreen of your Peugeot 5008 is not fitted correctly, it can come loose during heavy braking. In addition, an incorrectly fitted windscreen will leak, causing much more damage to the car. Replacing a Peugeot 5008 windscreen is therefore much more difficult than replacing a Peugeot 5008 side window, for example.
Are you a car mechanic or garage owner? Then you can also order new car windows from us without installation. You can even pick up the car windows from us.
Do you need a windscreen replacement for your Peugeot 5008, but do you want to keep the costs clear? With an after market windscreen for your Peugeot 5008 the price is only € 399. This includes VAT, without fitting and without delivery. The total price for an fitted windscreen including VAT, delivery and installation, comes to € 499 within the Netherlands. For that price, your car window will be replaced at home or at another location and that almost always within three working days.
