The Renault 5 has been one of the longest running production lines of Renault. The first car rolled out of the factory in 1972 and sales only stopped in 1996, after having sold more than 7 million units worldwide. And this is partly due to the success of the Renault 5 Turbo and the Renault 5 Turbo II. Both models have the engine at the back of the car, making this a real two-seater. These models also don't have front-wheel drive; it is the rear axle that is driven. A striking fact is that the Renault 5 Turbo II has taken over more parts of the Renault 5 than the Turbo I, but it still weighs considerably less. And that means more horsepower per kilogram.
158 hp to be precise with a five-speed manual gearbox, and 0 to 100 kilometres per hour within 7 seconds. The maximum speed of this car from the 80's is a sloppy 200 kilometres per hour. And Renault pulled out another trick to make this car very popular. Only 1800 examples of the Renault Turbo (I) were made. The Turbo II can hardly be called rarer with 3200 cars on the market.
