Economical windscreen replacement for your Renault Fluence (Z.E.)

The Renault Fluence is one of the models that was never intended for the Western European market. On the contrary, it is designed for emerging markets such as Eastern Europe, South America and Asia. The Z.E. (zero emission) version of the Fluence is the only model that was offered directly in the Netherlands by the French car manufacturer. Do you have a Renault Fluence Z.E. and does the windscreen need to be replaced? Then take a look at the after market. The prices for automotive glass are much lower here, while the car windows are identical on brand windows, except for the brand logo of course.

Before we take a closer look at the windscreens for the Renault Fluence, let's have a look at this special Renault model, which was never meant for Western Europe.

The Renault Fluence; a model for emerging markets

The Renault Fluence was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in autumn 2009. It is actually nothing more than a sedan version of the Renault Mégane. It is built on the 4-d sedan platform, but is clearly an entry-level model. The Fluence is not marketed in Western Europe, but in those markets that are slightly behind, and where the demand for sedans is greater than in the Netherlands, for example.

Although the Fluence was not designed or developed for Western Europe, over time Renault did bring the car to dealers in the Netherlands (only the Z.E.) and Belgium (also with internal combustion engine). In the Netherlands, however, it was clear that Renault's approach was the right one; the Renault Fluence was sold less than 25 times, where the Renault Mégane sold more than 200,000 over the years.

The Renault Fluence Z.E.: fully electric

More than 100 examples of the Renault Fluence Z.E. were sold. This is the zero emission version of the Fluence, only with an electric motor. However, this model became a agony for Renault, mainly because the idea itself was good, but the Z.E. got a shot in the neck.

Let's start at the beginning: the Z.E. was developed in cooperation with Better Place, a battery developer who demanded that the batteries could be changed and charged quickly and easily. Better Place set up battery changing stations, one of the reasons why Renault kept the Z.E. in production, even when demand was already minimal.

When Better Place subsequently went bankrupt, Renault decided to pull the plug on the Z.E.. Renault did ensure that service could be provided for everyone with a Renault Fluence Z.E. in the Netherlands. The damage for Better Place is estimated to be just under 590 million euros.

The Renault Fluence Z.E. is currently only offered in South Korea under the name Renault Samsung SMS ZE.

When should the windscreen of the Renault Fluence be replaced?

Is there any damage to the windscreen of your Renault Fluence? Depending on the damage, it depends on whether the windscreen needs to be replaced. Is it a chip with a diameter of more than 20 millimetres or a branched crack in the driver's field of vision? Then you are not allowed to drive on. Also, the car will be rejected at the MOT with this window damage and windscreen replacement is necessary.

In case of glass damage outside the driver's field of vision, the requirements are much milder. This is due to the fact that glass damage right in front of the driver is extremely dangerous; the driver is distracted by the damage and incoming light is reflected in an unpredictable way, which can blind you.

Cheap windscreens for your Renault Fluence

Does the windscreen of your Renault Fluence need to be replaced? If so, do not go to the dealer first, unless you are using a form of lease such as short lease, in which maintenance is done by the dealer. In all other cases, you can go to the after market. There you will find windscreens for the Renault Fluence from € 299 (excluding delivery and fitting).

These prices are much lower than the dealer's prices. The difference between after market windscreens and dealer windscreens is the brand logo that makes Renault windscreens pricey. There is no difference at all, apart from the price of course. The automotive glass is made in the same way in the same factories. This means that the after market windscreens automatically have the best price/quality ratio.

Can I replace the windscreen of my Renault Fluence myself?

If you are unsure whether you can replace the windscreen of your Renault Fluence yourself, the answer is always no. Windscreen replacement is a job for automotive glass experts.
