The Renault Koleos was one of Renault's first steps on the SUV market. They worked with Nissan to bring the project to a successful conclusion, but in the end the Koleos would be a huge flop for the French. The sales of the Renault Koleos didn't even hit the 1500 and the first generation was even taken out of production prematurely. Yet there was little wrong with the model itself; it was mainly the competition that killed the Koleos.
Do you own a Koleos and do you need a windscreen replacement for your Renault Koleos? Then first look at the after market, where the price-quality ratio of automotive glass is by definition the best. Before we look at the prices of new windscreens for your Renault Koleos, we first take a closer look at this special Renault model. Where did things go wrong for the Renault Koleos?
In 2006, most car manufacturers had already launched a strong range of SUVs on the market. Renault was one of the big names that had hardly paid any attention to this. The Renault Scénic RX4 and the Renault Kangoo 4X4 were the only models that could be classified under the SUV name. In 2006 Renault changed this by introducing the Koleos. A compact SUV designed by Renault, but the development was in the hands of Nissan. It was therefore not surprising that Nissan's 2.5 litre petrol engine was used for the first generation.
The Koleos came onto the market in 2008. It turned out that there was no demand for the model in the Netherlands. In the year of introduction, 726 units were sold; the following year only 523 and it was decided to take the Koleos out of the Dutch market. In Belgium and Germany, however, the Koleos remained for sale. There it was allowed to compete with the Peugeot 4007 and the Citroën C-Crosser. The 2011 and 2013 facelifts were never offered to Dutch Renault dealers.
The second generation of the Koleos was a complete flop in the Netherlands. Just over 100 copies were sold. This had little to do with the model itself. The two diesel engines with 130 and 175 hp were strong advantages, especially the 175 hp 2.0 which was available with four-wheel drive. Petrol variants of the Koleos were never marketed in Europe because there was little demand for petrol models on the market.
In the years between 2015 and 2017, Renault introduced many new models to the market, including the Renault Espace, the Renault Talisman and the Renault Mégane. In addition, the Koleos is in a market segment in which almost all car manufacturers have responded, because the demand for SUVs was considerable. Think of the Toyota RAV4, the Volkswagen Tiguan and the (considerably more expensive) Volvo XC60.
The main problem for the Renault Koleos was that the model was offered in a saturated market. The Renault Koleos had literally nothing the competitors didn't have and with the sparse experience with the SUV market the consumer preferred a name with more experience.
Less than 1400 copies of the Renault Koleos were sold in the Netherlands. This, together with the Master, Wind and Avantime, puts it among the worst-selling Renault models in the Netherlands. Of course this is not very surprising when the first generation is taken off the market after only 2 years.
Are you one of the owners of a Koleos and do you have windscreen damage? Then this does not always mean that the windscreen of the Renault Koleos has to be replaced immediately. There are roughly two situations in which the windscreen needs to be replaced. The windscreen needs to be replaced when the damage is in the driver's field of vision and when this:
In the above cases, it is not permitted to use the car in traffic. The windscreen of the Renault Koleos must be replaced before you can continue driving. But what does a car windscreen actually cost for the Koleos?
On the after market, you can get a new windscreen for the Renault Koleos for € 279. This is much cheaper than the prices charged by your Renault dealer. The big difference between the Renault windscreen and after market windscreens is exclusively the brand logo. Car windows with a brand logo may only be sold by the brand dealer. This exclusivity results in a higher price. That is why cheap car window replacement starts with the attractively priced after market car windows.
