Low-cost windscreen replacement for your Renault Midliner

The Renault Midliner is a model about which little information can be found. Yet this medium-heavy truck has been in production for more than 20 years and the models can still be found in traffic all over the world. As a truck, fire truck or special vehicle for rescue services. For Renault, the Midliner has been a step into a new market, leaning heavily on Saviem.

Do you have a Renault Midliner with windscreen damage? In some cases a windscreen replacement is necessary. With us you already have a new Renault Midliner windscreen for € 339. Before we discuss the benefits of after market windscreens for your Renault Midliner, we will first take a look at this special model that has stood the test of time.

The Renault Midliner; made possible in part by Saviem?

The predecessor of the Renault Midliner must be a Saviem model. Renault had little experience in the market of medium-heavy trucks. Since Renault had recently taken over Saviem, which had a great deal of experience in making trucks, the Renault developers were allowed to go straight to school.

Saviem
(Société Anonyme de Véhicules Industriels et d'Equipements Mécaniques) had been a Renault subsidiary for some time (since 1955). Between 1967 and 1977 Saviem worked with MAN and sold the models in France under its own name. In 1975, Renault decided to incorporate the truck and bus divisions into its own company. A few years later, the Renault Midliner stood at the gates of the factories as a result.
By the way, this model is also known as the Mack Midliner, as Renault worked together with Mack Trucks.
Incidentally, the model has undergone several changes over the years. In 1987, the front of the truck was completely redesigned to give it a more modern look. In 1995, the last major overhaul of the type was carried out. The bodywork was modified and the interior redesigned so that the model would once again be attractive to the average driver. Airbags can only be found in the models built in the 1990s.

In 2000 the model was taken out of production; the Renault Midlum would take over in the truck market segment for Renault.

What exactly is the Renault Midliner?

There is no unambiguous answer to what the Renault Midliner actually is. It was marketed by Renault as a midliner among lorries and a pick-up truck. However, the models can be found in many different versions; from a camper van to a fire engine, from a truck with a hoist system to a vehicle for rescue services. And all this within and outside Europe. The fact that so many models have been converted and are still in use says more than enough about the quality of Renault's Midliner.

When should the windscreen of the Renault Midliner be replaced?

Damage to the windscreen is annoying, especially for a truck that has to drive longer distances on a daily basis. Nevertheless, the windscreen of the Renault Midliner does not need to be replaced every time there is damage to the glass, and windscreen repair is not always compulsory.

The windscreen has to be replaced in two cases. If you have a chip with a diameter greater than 20 millimetres or a branched crack (both in the driver's field of vision), you may not continue driving until your Renault Midliner windscreen has been replaced.

In the event of minor windscreen damage, however, you may continue to drive. It is wise to keep an eye on the windscreen damage. The windscreen can tear further, after which windscreen replacement is unavoidable.

How much does a new windscreen cost for the Renault Midliner?

New windscreens are not cheap when you ask your Renault dealer. This has to do with the brand logo that is incorporated in the windscreen. However, with us you already have a new windscreen for the Renault Midliner for € 399. The price difference is in the aforementioned brand logo. After market car windows are not provided with a brand logo, partly because the logo does nothing for the windscreen.

Furthermore, the types of automotive glass are identical; they are often even made in the same factories and meet exactly the same quality requirements. This makes the after market automotive glass always the best choice with regard to the price-quality ratio.
