Cheap windscreen replacement for your Renault Midlum

The Renault Midlum is a Renault Trucks truck with which the tide had to be turned. The particularly poor reputation in this market segment had to be polished away, partly with the help of the umbrella AB Volvo
(owner of Renault Trucks). Renault was able to do this, especially when the much stronger 18-tonne truck was launched on the market, which received particularly good reviews. Do you have a Renault Midlum and does this model have windscreen damage? Then a windscreen replacement may be necessary. On the after market you will find cheap truck windscreens of high quality.

Before we take a closer look at this, we would like to take a brief look back at this Renault Trucks model, which was of great importance to the truck manufacturer.

Renault Midlum; back in the competition?

Before the introduction of the Renault Midlum, Renault Trucks
had clear problems. The trucks that were made had the reputation of being very reliable. And that was the end of it. The interior was always very spartan, the design left something to be desired and the Renault Trucks trucks could not be called truly modern. Reliable trucks, but not much more than that.

Time to go to the drawing board for the French. Renault developed the Midlum as a lightweight among its competitors, with a total laden weight of between 7.5 and 19 tonnes. The trucks were mainly developed for distribution to urban environments and local transport. The Midlum came on the market in 2000 and in 2010 the 100,000th model rolled out of the factory, clearly showing that Renault and Volvo had developed a strong model. Eventually, production would not be stopped until 2013, after the Midlum had shown good sales worldwide. In that year the Renault Midlum was replaced by the Renault Trucks D.

The efforts of Renault (and Volvo) were aimed at getting a better name in the segment and claiming market share. Therefore, the first models were soon extended with even better alternatives. This applied to the Midlum and Renault Premium Distribution lines. For the Midlum, this meant developing the 18-tonner and developing two engines in the range (5 and 7 litres) which were particularly economical in consumption. In addition, the new engines (since 2006) did meet the Euro-4 standard and some models were even prepared for the Euro-5 standard.

With regard to the interior, Renault lost the 'Spartan' stamp with the Midlum. The models were well designed, with attention to driver comfort and a more modern look, which enabled the Midlum to become the sales success that Renault needed. And the dusty image was finally shaken off the French shoulders!

When should the windscreen of the Renault Midlum be replaced?

Windscreen damage is annoying, especially when a professional driver spends long days behind the wheel of the Midlum. Technically speaking, the windscreen of the Renault Midlum only needs to be replaced in two cases. These are glass damage in the driver's field of vision involving a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres, or a branched crack.

Other glass damage is often not a reason for immediate failure. However, it is wise to keep an eye on the damage in the windscreen of the truck. On the one hand because a damaged window can tear further. On the other hand, because it concerns a lorry that is professionally (and heavily loaded) many hours on the road. Any form of distraction for the driver is a risk.

Can I replace the Renault Midlum windscreen myself?

Replacing a windscreen is a job better left to the expert. If the windscreen is not fitted correctly, it can leak or come loose when braking abruptly. We always recommend that you have your windscreen replaced by our certified fitting partners, who can do this at your place of work or elsewhere in the Netherlands or Belgium. With us, truck or car window replacement on location is always a possibility.

How much does a windscreen actually cost for a Renault Midlum?

Windscreen Renault Midlum without options€ 399.00
Windscreen Renault Midlum with sun shade band€ 399.00
Windscreen Renault Midlum with camera€ 399.00
Windscreen moulding Renault Midlum€ 30.00

You already have a new windscreen for the Renault Midlum from € 339. This is a price that is much lower than the price your Renault Trucks dealer charges you. This has to do with the brand logo present in the Renault windscreens themselves. The logo doesn't do anything itself, but it does give the truck windscreens an exclusive character. You pay for this exclusivity.

After market windscreens do not carry a brand logo. As a result, the price is much lower. By the way, the quality is identical; our Renault Midlum windscreens are made in the same factory as the windscreens proposed by your Renault dealer. If you want both high quality and economical automotive glass, then the after market is the right place for you.
