Low-cost windscreen replacement for your Renault Modus

The Renault Modus has never really been a great success in the Netherlands. At the same time, 15,000 copies on Dutch soil are not nearly as bad for a mini-MPV, which was actually placed by Renault mainly between different models in order to find a gap in the market. Do you have a model of this type and do you need a windscreen replacement for your Renault Modus? Then the after market offers the best value for money.

We will be happy to explain that to you. But first we look at this special model from the French car manufacturer.

The Renault Modus: particular attention to safety

The Renault Modus was the first small family car with 5 stars in the EURO-NCAP tests. By the way, the car is not really small: Renault marketed the Modus as a mini-MVP. The car is only 3.8 metres long, but it does have the height of the Renault Scénic and at the same time has many similarities with the Renault Clio, which is built on exactly the same platform. Renault deliberately introduced the Modus as an intermediate model; it had to be attractive to people who wanted a bigger car than the Clio, but found the Scénic too big. The platform of the Renault Modus was also used to build the Nissan Note and Nissan Micra.

It is striking that Renault did not manage to keep the weight down. Despite its limited dimensions, the Modus weighed no less than 1245 kilos at its introduction, which is equal to the average weight of a mid-sized car. Incidentally, the higher weight did not negatively affect the driving characteristics of the Modus. They are fine, which is to be expected from a Renault model.

Yet also a family car

Renault has paid a lot of attention to the interior. For example, the rear seats can be moved lengthways and widthways to give more room for a third passenger on the back seat. The height of the car also makes it easy for taller people to get in and out of the car.

A lot of luggage cannot be carried with Renault Modus. This is where the 'mini' in mini-MVP becomes apparent. The luggage space is 174 litres minimum and 279 litres maximum. Not really spectacular. What is also striking about the Modus is that despite its relative simplicity the car is equipped with lights that turn with the bends. However, there are a number of technical requirements. For example, you have to make at least a 40 degree turn and you may drive a maximum of 60 kilometres per hour.

Not a great image, but a reliable car

The Renault Modus is not a car with a spectacular image, as several other Renault models have. The Modus is not designed to be spectacular. It is a car designed to be a reliable, safe and practical family car. By the way, that image was immediately picked up by Top Gear. If you are a fan of the British car programme, you have undoubtedly seen the clip below about the Renault Modus before:

The image has not affected the sales figures. Only 15,000 copies of the Modus were sold in the Netherlands, but for a family mini-MPV that was placed on the market between Clio and Scénic it is far from inadequate.

When should the windscreen of your Renault Modus be replaced?

When you have damage in the windscreen of your Modus, it is not always cause for panic. Not every windscreen damage makes it necessary to replace the windscreen of your Renault Modus. In the case of a chip, in many cases having the windscreen repaired is also an excellent option. There are two cases in which the windscreen does need to be replaced. These are windscreen damage in the driver's field of vision:

  • A chip with a diameter of more than 20 millimetres
  • A branched crack

In these cases you are not allowed to continue driving with your Modus. Your car will therefore be rejected for the MOT because of the damage in the windscreen. The windscreen of the Renault Modus must then be replaced. Fortunately, it is possible to replace the windscreen inexpensively.

How much does a new windscreen for Renault Modus cost?

A new windscreen for Renault Modus is already available from € 269. As you already suspect, this is not the price the dealer will charge you when you order a new windscreen. This is an after market car window for your Modus. The price of this automotive glass is many times lower than the car window at your Renault dealer and there is only one reason for this.

Renault windscreens at the dealership carry a brand logo. This logo ensures that these windscreens may only be sold by the dealer. This exclusivity is reflected in the price tag. After market windscreens do not carry a brand logo. However, they are made in the same way, often even in the same factories as Renault branded windscreens.

With this, we can safely state that the price-quality ratio of the after-market windscreens is many times better than the windscreens at your Renault dealer.

Can I replace the windscreen of my Renault Modus myself?

Unless you are a car mechanic or have already successfully replaced many windscreens, we strongly advise you not to replace the windscreen of your Renault Modus yourself. The installation of the new windscreen must be accurate and correct, to prevent loosening and leakage. Above all, this is about your safety and the life of the car. You can easily order delivery and fitting on location throughout the Netherlands and Belgium when you have found the right windscreen for your Renault Modus.
