The Renault 19 has been one of the biggest success models for the French car manufacturer. Great in terms of sales figures, of course, because the R19 is itself a compact family car. This model was sold almost 75,000 times in the Netherlands, and would also achieve strong figures worldwide. Not only because of the wide range of variants, but above all because of the reliability and strong name this model was given.
Do you have a Renault 19 and do you have damage in the car window? Then there is a chance that you will need to replace your windscreen. With an after market windscreen the price remains limited and you will always get the best quality. We will be happy to tell you exactly how this works after first looking at this iconic Renault model. How did the R19 become such a success?
The Renault 19 was presented in June 1988. Sales in France began three months later. The Renault 19 did not come a moment too soon for Renault. The predecessors, the Renault 9 and the Renault 11, had become quite old-fashioned and had been overtaken by competitors. Renault needed a strong compact family car to take up the competition again. The Renault 19 was therefore exported directly to Great Britain.
In 1992 the R19 was given a facelift, in which the front and rear were tackled thoroughly. There was also a new interior, plus a completely new dashboard. The range of engines was also extended to the modern standard. In 1996 the R19 was taken out of production in most countries. In Argentina and Turkey the Renault 19 remained in production. In Turkey the line only stopped in 2000; Argentina followed a year later.
At the end of 1988 a special version of the R19 was developed; the Renault 19 16V (or 16S). The V does not stand for volt, but for 'vault' (or 'soupapes' when you are familiar with the French language). It was a real 16 valve under the bonnet of the R19. It only came on the market in 1990. Several adjustments were made to give this model a sporty appearance.
According to Renault, this model reached 100 kilometres per hour from a standstill in 8.2 seconds and its top speed was an astronomical 215 kilometres per hour. Not bad for a compact family car.
It is also striking that most of the commercials for the Renault 19 did not respond to the speed of the 16V and not to the character of the family car. This was an average advertisement for the first generation:
This was followed up by a series for the 16V facelift that embroidered in the same way, but still had incredibly little to do with the car or its features:
Let us say classic Renault.
There are still a lot of Renault 19 copies in use. Do you have an R19 and is the windscreen damaged? Then it is possible that the windscreen of your Renault 19 needs to be replaced. Whether this is the case with your car depends on the location and the extent of the damage. Is it a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres or a branched crack and is it in the driver's field of vision? If so, the windscreen of your R19 will indeed need to be replaced.
Is the damage more limited or is it not in the driver's field of vision? Then this is usually not a reason for an MOT failure. However, it is wise to keep an eye on the damage to the windscreen; the windscreen can tear further. This happens especially when there are large differences in temperature on either side of the automotive glass.
Windscreen Renault 19, clear, not tinted | € 249.00 |
Windscreen Renault 19, green tinted | € 249.00 |
Windscreen Renault 19, green tinted with sun shade band | € 249.00 |
Windscreen moulding Renault 19 | € 60.00 |
You already have a new windscreen for the R19 for € 249. This is considerably cheaper than what you pay Renault dealers. There is an explanation for this; the Renault windscreens carry a brand logo. The brand logo does not do anything for the windscreen itself, but it does create an exclusive character. As the Renault dealer is the only one allowed to sell these windows, this means a higher price.
Do you want to buy a cheap windscreen and is quality important? Then our after market windscreens are the perfect option. They do not have a brand logo, which means the price is much lower. At the same time, the quality is identical to the windscreens at the dealer. In fact, our windscreens are made in exactly the same factories.
It is perfectly possible to replace the car window yourself, but not when it comes to a windscreen. Does a side window need to be replaced and are you technically equipped? Then you can do this yourself whenever you want and there is time to do so. We strongly advise against replacing the windscreen, unless you are a garage owner or a car glass expert. Windscreen replacement of the Renault 19 is a job that has to be done accurately and correctly by an expert in order to prevent damage and leakage.
Windscreen replacement and not insured? If so, replacing the Renault 19 windscreen yourself is not a good way to save money. With our competitively priced windscreens you can often save a lot, so replacing the windscreen by our certified fitting partners is likely to be within your budget. If this is not the case, you can always choose to pay us in three instalments.
