Low-cost windscreen replacement for your Renault Talisman

The Renault Talisman is a striking model of Renault. If there were no Renault emblem on the car, it would be more likely to be given one of the major E-segment names. Renault tried to serve a new market with the Talisman and pulled out all the stops. All in all, the Renault Talisman was sold more than 5,000 times in the Netherlands and had a reasonable success in the rest of Europe and Asia.

Do you have a Renault Talisman and do you need to replace the windscreen? Then take a look at the after market first. The prices for new windscreens are much lower there than at the Renault dealer. Before we elaborate further on this, let's have a look at this special Renault model with which the French have left the standard pattern for once.

The Renault Talisman; concept car in 2001, production in 2015

That the Talisman was going to be an exciting journey for Renault was probably something the car manufacturer realised at an early stage. The concept for the Talisman was already known in 2001. Fourteen (!) years later, the first Talisman rolled out of the factories. Built on the CMF CD platform (owned by Renault and Nissan), the Talisman is Renault's second largest car; it has to tolerate the Renault Espace in front of it. The advantage of the CMF CD platform is that the Talisman could be produced on a much larger scale, something that never succeeded with the Renault Laguna.

Already at the introduction two different versions were available. The saloon (code LFD) and the station (code KFD). The Talisman was primarily intended to aggressively regain market share in the area of larger family cars.

This is why the model was made larger than the Laguna, but the centre of gravity was lowered in order to offer more comfort. The developers also kept the focus on the equipment and design, in order to seamlessly meet the demands of people looking for a family car. At the same time, the car had to be more stylish than its predecessors. The goal: to meet the demand for cars for the business fleet.

Renault pulled out all the stops to make this model a success. This can be seen in the many standard equipment and options, including the Premier, which was equipped with:

  • Infotainment system with 8.7-inch screen (optional)
  • 4 Wheel Control System (standard)
  • Standard settings Comfort, Eco, Neutral and Personalised
  • Various ADAS systems

Incidentally, Renault was not entirely flawless in developing the Renault Talisman. About 100,000 copies (only the RS SM6 Saloon version) were recalled. The plastic protection on the clutch and brake pedals was regularly coming off. Renault received a fine of no less than half a million dollars for this.

The success of the Renault Talisman

More than 100,000 copies of the Renault Talisman were sold in Europe. An excellent result for a model that can almost compete with its competitors in the E-segment, but the question is whether Renault would not have been able to get more out of this. The damage to Renault's image when the models were recalled undoubtedly put a brake on its success. What is also striking is that Renault's official trailer contradicts the actual objective. Unless you are a family man who regularly flies in his own plane over green rolling countryside.

When should the windscreen of the Renault Talisman be replaced?

Are you one of the owners of a Talisman and do you have windscreen damage? If so, the windscreen of your Renault Talisman may need to be replaced. This is not always necessary. Car window replacement is only required in the case of chips with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres and branched cracks in the driver's field of vision. If the windscreen damage is in a different location in the windscreen, the windscreen does not need to be replaced immediately. However, it is wise to keep an eye on the damage to the windscreen, as the windscreen can tear further.
