The Renault Wind is without a doubt a special Renault model. It is a two-seater and a roadster. A model that hasn't been in production for a long time and at the same time a car type that had a very small target group. Nevertheless, Renault found it necessary to put the model on the market. On the one hand to show that the French can also make a roadster, on the other hand to appeal to a wider market. Partly because this car had been in production for a very short time, it was not a success.
Do you have a Renault Wind and does the windscreen need to be replaced? Then it is good to know that you can find very cheap windscreens on the after market. Before we go further into this, we will first have a look at this special model of Renault that seems to have been a test.
The Renault Wind was shown to the public in 2004. The concept car was a roadster, a 2+1 seater. However, it took almost 6 years before the concept car was translated into a production model. The actual Renault Wind was shown in March 2010 and had become a 2-seater. Already in 2012 the delivery to Great Britain was stopped. One year later the Renault Wind was completely taken out of production.
The design of the Wind is very similar to the Renault Clio and Renault Mégane. Not very surprising, because the Clio II (Mk2) platform was the basis for the Wind models. However, a lot was also borrowed from the Renault Twingo. Not surprising given the small size of the Wind (2.3 metres wheelbase, total length 3.8 metres). Yet it wasn't all about looking at other models. Renault decided to really work on the model to show its muscle.
That's why Erdenechulun was brought in to make a special system for the steering wheel and pedals in the car. These fold away automatically when the door is opened. The result is that there is more space to get in and out. The Wind was also fitted with a metal roof that can rotate 180 degrees backwards and then slide away. This takes about 12 seconds.
The Renault Wind was released in 3 versions: the Dynamique, Dynamique S and Collection. The Dynamique S was the rarest version, where the Collection was the standard version of the Wind.
You cannot expect record-breaking sales figures from a two-seater roadster. The market is simply too small to sell hundreds of thousands of models when the car hardly lends itself to shopping. Yet the Wind did not do it unkindly. In Europe 12,825 copies were sold. For a car of this caliber with relatively few spectacular extras compared to the competition a very good result.
If you have glass damage in the windscreen of your Renault Wind, this is not always a major problem. In most cases you can just keep on driving. Also, not all windscreen damage is reason to fail an MOT. In two cases you are not allowed to continue driving (and the car will of course be rejected at the inspection). This concerns damage in the driver's field of vision involving a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres or a branched crack.
Is the car window damage of a more limited extent or is it not in the driver's field of vision? Then you may continue to drive. However, it is wise to keep an eye on the damage to the windscreen; a cracked windscreen can tear further. The risk of tearing is especially present when there are large temperature differences on either side of the window, such as driving with the air conditioning on during the summer. It is therefore a wise choice to have the car window repaired immediately in the event of minor damage.
