Tesla came up with the Model 3 as the successor to the Model S, in order to offer a cheap, all-electric car worldwide, learning from the problems with the Model S. Well, some problems, because in terms of production and delivery, things once again went wrong at Elon Musk's company, causing long queues and people not even sure if they would get their car.
The Tesla Model 3 has been a resounding success. It picked up several awards, was crowned the best-selling electric car, and the plug-in cars also sold like hot cakes in the Netherlands. Do you have a Tesla Model 3 and need a windscreen replacement? Then you will find windscreens with the best value for money and optimal ordering convenience. Before we look at that, let's take a closer look at Tesla's Model 3.
In 2006, Musk said in an interview that the Tesla Model 3 was to be an affordable electric car with a price tag around $30,000. At the same time, it was to be a family car, with five seats and a generous boot as well as a decent range. Big promises for the time, as developments and technology at that time were far from where they are today.
When the model was presented in 2016, there were already more than 300,000 pre-orders immediately. These came mainly from the United States and China, the countries where this Tesla would be sold the most. By mid-2017, the counter stood at more than 450,000 pre-orders, which was mainly due to the model's value for money and, of course, the fact that Elon Musk simply cannot stay out of the news.
Franz von Holzhausen, designer of the Model 3 (and also the Tesla Model S) immediately compared the new model to the BMW 3-Series, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Audi A4. The Model 3 is considerably smaller than the Model S, with much of the technology from its predecessor carried over to the Model 3 (partly to keep costs down). Incidentally, the Model 3 did become more expensive than predicted, but according to Tesla, this is mainly due to the fact that optional features are now included in the standard version.
Over the years, Tesla has been constantly making adjustments and improvements to ensure that the Tesla Model 3 stays in tune with the current market. For instance, many of the design elements of the newer Tesla Model Y were also incorporated into a Model 3 update at a later date.
In terms of batteries, this is perhaps best seen. The Tesla Model 3 started with a 50 kWh battery (350 kilometres of range) and an optional 75 kWh (500 kilometres of range) battery. The newer models have a 79 or 82 kWh battery and can DC charge at 250 kW instead of 170 kW, and have a higher maximum amperage on AC charging (from 32A to 48A).
As with the Tesla Model S, Tesla also had major delivery problems with the Tesla Model 3, which faced significantly more pre-orders than its predecessor. Even the giga-factory in Asia could not provide a solution, especially when there were major supply problems with chip and component suppliers, due to the corona crisis and measures. The months-long queues had a negative impact on Tesla's image and the success of the Tesla Model 3.
Nevertheless, in 2021, the Tesla Model 3 was crowned the best-selling electric car in the Netherlands and also broke all records in China and the United States. In the UK, the Tesla failed to knock the Kia e-Niro off the throne. In June 2021, the millionth unit of the Model 3 was sold, making its success (even somewhat mitigated by delivery problems) particularly great for Tesla.
What we shouldn't miss here, by the way, is one of Tesla's commercials for the Model 3 - a stunning clip for an automaker with a deeper story, without the Tesla Model 3 being overly obvious or overly starring.
Windscreen damage is always annoying and in most cases a bit of a scare, especially when the windscreen damage is caused by a stone splashing on the motorway. Yet damage in the windscreen is far from always reason to panic, as most people simply continue driving with a chip or crack in the windscreen.
When the windscreen damage is in the driver's field of vision, the story becomes different. In that case, the size and type of damage in the windscreen must be considered. If it is a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres, the windscreen will have to be replaced. This is because your Tesla Model 3 will then no longer pass inspection. If the damage is less extensive, take a critical look at the extent to which visibility is impaired. After all, good road visibility is crucial for road safety.
You already have a new windscreen for your Tesla Model 3 for €1,049. This is cheaper than the price charged by your brand dealer, and there's a reason for that. This is because our automotive glass does not feature a brand logo that makes the windscreen unnecessarily expensive. By the way, the quality is identical: our car windows are made in the same factories in the identical way as the brand windows.
The price difference between our after market car windows and dealer car windows is so great that our new windscreens are often still cheaper than used automotive glass. Especially with models like the Tesla Model 3, as there is not a big market for used parts of the relatively new cars.
We strongly discourage you from replacing the windscreen of your Tesla Model 3 yourself. Windscreen replacement is an extensive and precise job that requires taking care not to damage the car, the new windscreen and yourself. To take the worry completely out of your hands, we work with certified fitting partners who replace windscreens on-site throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. It does not matter whether your car is in your own driveway, the car park of the company where you work or a local shopping centre. Our partners always ensure that the car window is replaced in the best possible way, without you having to worry about it.
