Proponents and opponents have never been so far apart as when the Tesla Model S was introduced, the US automaker's model that promised to change electric driving forever under Elon Musk's banner. The Model S became an important model for Tesla, not only because it was the big leap into the global market, but also because the Americans learned a lot while developing and improving the model. The Model S became a reasonable success in the Netherlands, but would lose out to the Model 3.
Do you own a Tesla Model S and need a windscreen replacement? Then you can find cheap windscreens with us where the quality is identical to the quality of original Tesla windscreens. Before we tell you how this is possible, let's take a look at the plug-in car that was supposed to change the world.
If you ask random people which model is Tesla's first car, most people will mention the Tesla Model S, the car Tesla broke through the world with. However, the S is not the first model made by the US carmaker. The Roadster was the first Tesla and came to market in 2008, but did not become nearly as huge a success as the models that would follow.
Incidentally, the Tesla Model S was already on the drawing board when the Roadster came out. In 2007, the Tesla team started working on project 'Whitestar', which would eventually lead to the famous Model S. The first prototype was shown in March 2009 and expectations were immediately high, partly because of Elon Musk's enormous promises regarding fully autonomous Tesla cars and battery performance that were unprecedented at the time. For instance, the Tesla Model S's battery could store twice as much energy and have twice the range of the Nissan Leaf.
Anyone looking at the electric car market in 2012, the year the Tesla Model S would actually arrive at dealerships, must admit - even if you are not a fan of Musk or Tesla - that the Model S represented a breath of fresh air in the model range. And that immediately caused huge delivery problems, as Tesla could not handle the number of orders, creating long waiting lists, something that did considerable damage to the model's success. Indeed, many orders were cancelled when it turned out that waiting times could reach (more than) 6 months.
As there was little to no enthusiasm among consumers, Tesla decided to change course and invested in a huge network of Tesla Superchargers (HP-chargers). With this, Tesla has had the strongest and largest charging network in Europe for years. Since Superchargers were initially exclusive to Tesla drivers, this has incredibly driven the sales success of the Tesla Model S, Tesla Model Y and Tesla Model 3. Nowadays, by the way, most Superchargers can also be used for non-Tesla cars.
Already in 2018, more than a quarter of a million units of the Tesla Model S had been sold, which was partly due to the eight-year or 200,000-kilometre warranty on the 60 kWh battery and the eight-year warranty (with no mileage limitation) on the 85 kWh battery. Of course, Musk's constant developments and being in the news (both positive and negative) on a weekly basis also contributed greatly to the model's success. However, the success of the Model S was greatly inhibited in 2017. Ironically, the Model S's biggest competitor became the Tesla Model 3, which not only matched its success but also crushed it.
Those used to the promotional videos and ads from America, such as from Ford, would expect Tesla to come up with stunning material to announce and promote the revolutionary Model S. Saying nothing further, we leave the judgement to you:
The rules around windscreen damage are identical for electric cars. This means that you can continue driving with a chip or crack in the windscreen as long as the damage is not in the driver's field of vision. If the damage is in the field of vision, the following applies: is the diameter of the chip 20 millimetres or more or is it a branched crack? Then the windscreen needs to be replaced, as the car will not pass the next MOT.
You already have a new windscreen for your Tesla Model S for €599. This price includes VAT and excludes fitting and/or delivery. When you indicate your preferences on the page, the price is adjusted instantly so you don't have to refresh the page to see your total price.
Our windscreens are significantly cheaper than the original windscreens for your Tesla, while the quality is identical. The big difference is in the brand logo. This logo does nothing for the quality or functions of your windscreen, but it does make it unnecessarily exclusive that you are paying for. Our windscreens have no brand logos, which means they are significantly cheaper. If you are looking for cheap automotive glass with the best quality, you will always end up with our replacement car windows.
Replacing the windscreen of your Tesla Model S yourself is not a good idea. Tinkering with an electric car is inherently trickier and riskier than making your own repairs or adjustments to a combustion engine car, and replacing a windscreen involves even more than a minor repair that involves fitting replacement parts. To unburden you, we work with certified fitting partners who replace automotive glass on-site throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. That means you can safely take your Tesla out onto the streets again in no time at all, with an intact and clean windscreen.
