Cheap windscreen replacement for your Toyota 4Runner

Although the Toyota 4Runner is by no means a household name in the Netherlands or Belgium, more than 3 million units of this model have been sold, with the US market in particular being eager. If you have a Toyota 4Runner and need a windscreen replacement, you have come to the right place. This is because our Toyota 4Runner windscreens are the best value for money and can be fitted on-site for you.

Before we look at the cheap replacement car windows in our range, let's take a closer look at the particular Japanese model to see where its huge success came from.

1983: the first generation and a model that was far from unique

In 1983, the first Toyota 4Runner entered the market, but it was not a huge surprise. Toyota had decided to make the new model a copy of the Toyota Hilux, taking inspiration from the Toyota Trekker. However, the Hilux received a major makeover in the exact same period, and for this they looked to the Ford Bronco and the K5 Blazer from Chevrolet. Like the Americans, the Japanese decided to remove the partition wall behind the front seats.

Incidentally, the back seat in the Toyota 4Runner had another special history. Indeed, export models shipped to America usually no longer had a back seat, because the model could then be imported cheaper (as a truck). Via the aftermarket in America itself, the rear seats were refitted after import, usually by Toyota dealers in America itself.

Several generations and still in production

Toyota soon realised that the 4Runner had potential and decided to develop a new generation for the model (along with the Toyota Hilux Surf) in 1989. To make the model even more attractive, the 4Runner was completely redesigned to offer a completely fresh model. At least, that was what Toyota thought of it, because many car enthusiasts soon saw that even the new model was identical to the Hilux from the bumper to the B-pillars, and that even the powertrain was a copy.

In 1995, Toyota decided to change course with the third generation of the Toyota 4Runner and no longer copied anything from the Hilux. This time it was the turn of the new Toyota Tacoma, which was allowed to part with parts, although the chassis was in turn shared with the Land Cruiser Prado. Incidentally, Toyota paid close attention when developing the new model. Whereas its competitors mainly shone off-road and offered little comfort on normal roads, the Japanese made sure that the Toyota 4Runner could drive just fine on asphalt.

The fourth (2002) and fifth (2009) generations would also lean heavily on the Land Cruiser Prado, although Toyota added numerous extra features to modernise the model. Not only can you think of stronger, more fuel-efficient engines, but also leather steering wheel trim and a leather trim for the gear lever.

For the latest generation (2024), Toyota has chosen to go back to the Toyota Tacoma as the basis for the 4Runner model. This generation was supposed to arrive at dealerships in mid-2024, but due to supply problems with parts, Toyota had to postpone it for six months.

Has the 4Runner been a success for Toyota?

The Toyota 4Runner has not become a resounding success in the Netherlands or Belgium, but that is not really surprising. In fact, if you look at its counterpart, the Toyota Hilux, they have hardly been sold in our country either. This is due to the fact that the model was not designed for city traffic or as a commuter car. It is a workhorse that is best used in agriculture, forestry and in places where frequent off-road driving is required.

With that knowledge, a sales figure of over 3 million is a very handsome achievement for the Toyota 4Runner. But then again, it is a handsome model, especially when filmed in the environment in which the 4Runner shines.

When should the windscreen of your Toyota 4Runner be replaced?

Although the Toyota 4Runner is a very robust car and can certainly take a beating, the windscreen is still just laminated automotive glass that can get damaged. However, not every kind of windscreen damage is cause for panic, as in most cases, you can continue driving your car as usual. However, there are two cases where the windscreen does need to be replaced because the car will no longer pass inspection. That is in case of a chip at least 20 millimetres in diameter or a branched crack, but only when this windscreen damage is in the driver's field of vision.

What does a new Toyota 4Runner windscreen cost?

You already have a new windscreen for your Toyota 4Runner for €299 when you choose our automotive glass. That's considerably cheaper than at your Toyota dealer and also cheaper than many a second-hand windscreen (mainly because they have to get them from far away as standard). The low price has nothing to do with the quality, because that is identical to that of the original Toyota windscreens. The low price is in the lack of a brand logo. By definition, your windscreen does not need one, because a logo does nothing for your car windows. That means you will always find the best value for money with us.
