The Toyota Auris had big shoes to fill right from its introduction, as it was supposed to be a replacement and complement to the immensely popular Toyota Corolla. However, Toyota managed to shape this in an excellent way, as the Toyota Auris also became a great success and many copies of this model are driving around in Belgium and the Netherlands. Before we surprise you with the prices of our cheap automotive glass, we first take a look at yet another successful model from Japan that managed to conquer the market worldwide.
In 2006, the Toyota Auris entered the market, using the platform of the Toyota Corolla (E150 series). In Europe, the Auris became the replacement for the larger version of the Toyota Corolla, where other countries used different names (which can easily lead to confusion). The idea was to fully compete with the Volkswagen Golf, the Hyundai i30, the Ford Focus and the Opel Astra, among others. Partly for this reason, Toyota decided to immediately give the new model six different equipment levels (Terra, Strata, Luna, Sol, Premium and Prestige), so that there was more than enough to choose from for every car enthusiast (likewise to the options for the model, of course).
In 2010, Toyota decided to take the competition even further by announcing the Auris Full Hybrid, and in mid-2010, the plug-in version of the Auris actually arrived in Europe. The hybrid used the powertrain and battery pack of the Toyota Prius, in order to keep the price of the new model down. The hybrid became a reasonable success. Toyota managed to sell 15,000 plug-in units in 2010 in Europe. In 2011, these sales figures doubled again.
The second generation of the Auris was announced in 2012 and launched in Japan the same year. Europe had to wait a year. The biggest change from the first generation is that the interior is considerably more luxurious and the model is wider and lower than its predecessor.
At the same time, the Toyota Auris Touring Sports was launched, which is almost 30 centimetres longer and this model is available with a hybrid powertrain, with a 100 kW electric motor and a 1.8-litre petrol engine.
The third generation then entered the market in 2018, but it was based on a completely different platform, namely the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform. This model had a particularly short existence, as already in 2019 the Auris line was discontinued in Europe, partly because the new Toyota Corolla (the twelfth generation) would take over the market segment for the Japanese carmaker.
There are an incredible number of advertising films to be found for the Auris, especially since it was marketed worldwide and numerous national and even regional advertising campaigns were set up to market the model. Among all the braver, dull adverts, we occasionally come across gems that we would like to share with you.
It takes relatively little to get a chip or crack in the windscreen while driving. A splashing stone can be enough to cause windscreen damage. However, in most cases of windscreen damage, you do not need to immediately look for a new windscreen for your Toyota Auris. Indeed, in only two cases of windscreen damage will your Auris be rejected at the MOT. These are a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres, but only when this damage is in the driver's field of vision.
Do you decide to continue driving with the damaged window because it is neither a nuisance nor a reject? Then keep an eye on the chip or crack. If there are large temperature differences on either side of the window, the window may crack further.
You already have a new windscreen for your Toyota Auris for €349 (including VAT, excluding fitting and/or delivery). This is considerably cheaper than the price your Toyota dealer will charge you, and this is solely due to the brand logo incorporated in the original windscreens for the model. This is because the quality is identical, but because our automotive glass has no brand logo that makes the car windows unnecessarily exclusive and therefore expensive, we can offer our Toyota Auris windscreens much cheaper. The price difference is so great that in almost all cases, our new windscreens are even cheaper than second-hand automotive glass for this model.
