The Toyota Aygo ranks high in the list of this automaker's most popular models, and quite a few of them can be found on Dutch roads. Not very strange, as more than 150,000 Aygos have been sold here at the time of writing. Do you have one of them, but do you have windscreen damage and need to replace the windscreen? Then you will find us a new windscreen with the best value for money. Our replacement windscreens are much cheaper than the ones the Toyota dealer has on hand.
Before surprising you with the price of a replacement car window, let's take a look at this model from Japan that has become unprecedentedly popular, because Toyota managed to develop a model that fitted the market seamlessly.
The Toyota Aygo saw the light of day in 2005, when the Japanese placed the small city car at dealerships. ‘Only’ two generations were made and the Aygo was in production from 2005 to 2022. Incidentally, it is a model made in collaboration with PSA Peugeot Citroën and the project was named ‘B-Zero’. The Aygo's counterparts are the Citroën C1 and the Peugeot 107, both of which also became popular.
Its success was partly due to Top Gear. In this British car programme, models from the B-Zero range were used to play football and the presenters praised the models for their manoeuvrability and even called the cars competent city cars. To save you a Google search, we have posted the clip below for you.
In 2014 came the second generation of the Aygo, which was completely redesigned and presented with a somewhat cheeky slogan: ‘go fun yourself’. As more than 10 versions were immediately launched on the market and all versions received numerous ADAS systems (which is useful in city traffic), the second generation also immediately found eager demand among car enthusiasts. In 2018, Toyota released another facelift with new headlights, a new bumper and new engines, and then the curtain fell on this model in 2022. However, the model did not disappear completely, as its successor would be the Toyota Aygo X.
We can't talk about the Aygo without taking a quick look at the Toyota Aygo Crazy concept model. A special model with 240 Nm, 197 hp and a 1.8-litre VVTL-i engine, for a model that weighs just over 1,000 kilos. That means 0 to 100 in less than 6 seconds and with its sporty looks, this has become a gem. A pricey gem, by the way, because according to Toyota, each Aygo Crazy costs over £100,000 (British) and that is only the cost of making the model.
It is a model that never went into production, but in the video below you can see the Toyota Aygo Crazy driving (and be sure to turn on the sound).
Just a small stone can cause a big chip in your windscreen. While windscreen damage is particularly annoying, by no means does every kind of damage mean that the windscreen needs to be replaced. On the contrary, because the windscreen needs to be replaced only if it is windscreen damage in the driver's field of vision, but only if it is a chip at least 20 millimetres in diameter or a branched crack. With this type and extent of window damage, your car will be rejected at the next MOT.
In all other cases, you can simply continue driving with the damage in your windscreen, although you can always opt to have your windscreen replaced if you find the windscreen damage in your Toyota Aygo itself bothersome or annoying. If you decide to continue driving, do keep an eye on the damage. Especially on days when the temperature difference between the two sides of the windscreen is large. This may actually cause the window to crack further.
You already have a new windscreen for your Toyota Aygo for €249 (including VAT). That's considerably cheaper than the windscreens your Toyota dealer has lying around, and there's a striking reason for that. This is because the quality of the automotive glass is identical, but the brand logo in the Toyota windscreens makes these car windows exclusive, making the price much higher.
The difference in price between a windscreen with and without a brand logo is so great that our new windscreens for the Toyota Aygo are often still cheaper than second-hand car windows for this model.
