Few models have been in production as long as the Toyota Carina. This model rolled out of the factory for over 30 years and has borrowed heavily from numerous models and platforms and has been the basis of many new Toyota models. Do you have a Toyota Carina with windscreen damage or have you found a used car that needs its windscreen replaced? Then you will find the best new windscreens at the best price with us.
Before we surprise you with the competitive prices of our replacement car windows, let's take a look at this particular Japanese model that managed to conquer the world.
Toyota had grand plans for the Carina, but immediately faced quite a problem. In fact, the US market seemed very attractive for this model, but the 10% import duty caused sales to disappoint sharply. Therefore, the Carina left the US market after only two years and the Japanese would make more focus on the European market. Eventually, Toyota would choose to make models in-house in the United States to avoid import fees.
Two years after the facelift for the first generation, the second generation hit the market in 1977 (available in the Netherlands from 1978). Not much changed, even the platform remained the same, but the engine range was expanded (with 74 hp of power), to make the model more attractive. Not much later, the models were equipped with five-speed transmission, and in 1979 the Carina got a new front end, now with four headlights.
Production of the Toyota Carina would continue through 2001, but models after 1996 were not offered outside Japan. In fact, the seventh generation (T210) was a limited-edition sedan that would only hit dealerships in Japan. This model was somewhat similar to the Corona Premio, which was also offered exclusively in Asia.
In 2001, the curtain would fall completely on the Toyota Carina, after a whopping 31 years of production. This model was succeeded by the Toyota Avensis in Europe. In Japan, the Toyota Allion would replace the Carina.
The Toyota Carina II is the model that entered the market in 1988, based on the Carina T170 (Japanese market). The model had a lot in common with the Toyota Corona and managed to become a great success because of the car's reliability. Tests by the ADAC showed that the Carina was up to twice as reliable as the Opel Vectra. The Toyota Carina II became especially successful in Scandinavia and the UK.
The Toyota Carina E is the successor to the Toyota Carina II, so again a model for the European market. Models for the Japanese market were given completely different bodywork. Remarkably, the Carina E was available (especially in the UK) in many different versions, especially with many different engines. This model would become the gatekeeper for the Toyota Carina series in Europe.
However, the biggest factor behind the success of this model lies elsewhere entirely. Toyota encountered numerous challenges in production and export and solved this by moving some production to the UK, a stroke of genius you can hear more about in the 1993 Top Gear film below.
Car damage is inevitable when you use your car on a daily basis. Especially when it comes to automotive glass damage, because despite all the innovations and advancements within the automotive industry, windows are still just glass and that breaks relatively easily. When a pebble taps against it at high speed, the risk of a crack or chip is high. Yet in far from all cases, this is reason to panic. In most cases, you can just keep on driving with windscreen damage.
There are two cases where the windscreen does need to be replaced. This is when the damage is in the driver's field of vision and involves a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres or a branched crack. In these cases, driving on is dangerous, as the window damage obstructs the view of the road and incoming light can be reflected in unpredictable ways. In addition, your car with this windscreen damage will be rejected at the next MOT.
You already have a new windscreen for your Toyota Carina for € 299 (including VAT, excluding on-site windscreen replacement and excluding delivery costs). Do look especially at the model year, as there are a variety of windscreens for the Carina with different sizes, which is not very surprising with a model that has been in production for more than 30 years.
Our automotive glass is much cheaper than the windscreens at your Toyota dealer. The explanation lies in a tiny logo in the glass. Your dealer only has windscreens with a brand logo. While this logo does nothing for the glass, it does make it look exclusive which basically means you are paying unnecessarily for the new car window. In most cases, our car windows are made in the same factories as the original windscreens, but because there is no brand logo in the glass, our Toyota Carina windscreens are significantly cheaper and thus you will always find automotive glass with the best value for money with us.
