Cheap windscreen replacement for your Toyota Picnic

The Toyota Picnic, which will never be proclaimed the most beautiful car ever made, is a successful model from Japan that became popular mainly because of its MPV functionality. Thousands of models have also been sold in the Netherlands. If you have one of these and need a windscreen replacement, you have come to the right place. Before we tell you what a new windscreen for your Picnic will cost (with or without window replacement), let's take a look at the model that is still much sought after on the second-hand market.

The first generation of the Toyota Picnic

The Toyota Picnic is a model that was in production from 1995 to 2010, although there are some snags here. Indeed, for the European market, only the first generation had been released as the Toyota Picnic. It entered the market in 1995 (marketed as Toyota Ipsum in Japan), but would not arrive at dealerships until 1996. The model shares many similarities with the Toyota Avensis and would become especially popular because of its space inside the car, with both the boot and the rear seats offering more than enough room in this compact MPV.

Incidentally, this model was marketed in Denmark as a Toyota Sportsvan (and thus not Ipsum or Picnic).

The second generation (and the name change)

The second generation of this model was marketed in Europe as Toyota Avensis Verso. The Picnic label was retained only in Singapore and Hong Kong. In Japan, the model kept the name Ipsum.

If you are looking for a windscreen for the second generation, you will find it on our Toyota Avensis Verso windscreens page.

How successful did the Toyota Picnic become?

With the different names and versions worldwide, it is difficult to find out how successful this model has become. Looking at the Netherlands, we can make a good estimate. The Toyota Picnic has sold more than 7,000 copies
in the Netherlands. However, if we include the Toyota Avensis Verso (which is in fact the second generation of the same model, with very many similarities), we add another 9,500 copies. That puts the Toyota Picnic almost on par with the Toyota Camry and Toyota Yaris Cross sales figures in the Netherlands, which is quite an achievement for this compact MPV.

Normally, we show you one video here that focuses on the car model. This time, there are two. Simply because our Belgian readers/customers can probably remember the advert below, in which the nuns are supposed to make the Picnic attractive, but this one turned out to be a particularly strange one.

To give you a better understanding of exactly where this model stands in automotive history, we have added a clip below from Top Gear's Grand Tour, in which Clarkson explains in great detail how a laughing stock of a car model would go on to play a major role for the MPV models that would follow.

When should the windscreen of the Toyota Picnic be replaced?

Windscreen damage is particularly annoying, especially when it is in the driver's field of vision. A chip or crack can be particularly distracting while driving, and incoming light (such as sunlight or the light from your oncoming car's headlights) can be reflected in unpredictable ways, which can cause glare.

However, this does not mean that the windscreen needs to be replaced for every kind of glass damage. On the contrary, because in most cases, you can just keep on driving with damage in your Toyota Picnic windscreen. However, is it a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of more than 20 millimetres and is it in the driver's field of vision? Then the windscreen does need to be replaced, because in that case your car will no longer pass the MOT.

What does a new Toyota Picnic windscreen cost?

You already have a new Toyota Picnic windscreen for just €399 (excluding windscreen moulding). This includes VAT, but does not include any costs for on-site windscreen replacement or delivery of your order. When you know what the Toyota dealer charges for a new windscreen, our automotive glass prices might seem too good to be true. We are happy to explain exactly how this is. The quality of the automotive glass is identical, but there is a brand logo in the original windscreens that creates an exclusive character that actually only makes for a higher price. Our car windows do not have a brand logo and that is why our new windscreens are often even cheaper than second-hand automotive glass, while the quality is significantly better.

Optimal convenience with on-site windscreen replacement by experts

As most people are unable to replace the windscreen of the Toyota Picnic (and numerous other car models) themselves, we work together with certified fitting partners who replace car windows on location. Not only in the Netherlands, but also just in Belgium, so that you can always safely hit the streets with your Picnic within a short time.

Are you an automotive glass specialist or do you know someone who can replace the windscreen of your Toyota Picnic? Then you can also contact us for new car windows excluding fitting. We work together with garages in the Netherlands and Belgium and are happy to ensure that you can also offer your customers the best possible service.
