Cheap windscreen replacement for the Toyota Previa

The Toyota Previa is a minivan from Toyota and was initially intended primarily as a model to explore the market and possibilities. However, the Previa has become much more than that and has even become a moderate success number for the Japanese. Do you own one of the minivans and need a windscreen replacement for your Toyota Previa? Then you can find the cheapest new windscreens at a price so low that they even manage to beat second-hand car windows. Before we explain how this is possible, let's take a brief look at Toyota's Previa.

Why the Previa is so important to Toyota

‘Previa’ is derived from the Spanish word for ‘preview’ and that directly indicates the role of this model. Toyota mainly wanted to use the Previa to develop and test new technologies for the minibuses that would be made at a later date. However, the Previa would become much more than a glorified prototype, as three generations would eventually hit the market and the model would remain in production for several decades, with fine sales numbers around the world.

Toyota Previa: almost 30 years of production across 3 different generations

The model that entered the market in 1990 had been developed back in 1987 and was marketed with a single sliding door for all occupants in the rear seat(s). In this model, the engine block is located under the front seats at a 75-degree angle, which made this model especially praised for having easy access to all engine parts (except for the spark plugs, as that even requires taking out the passenger seat).

In Japan itself, two smaller versions of the Toyota Previa were launched, the Estima Lucida and the Estima Emina. This was necessary because road tax in Japan is based on the size of the car and the Previa would fall in the more expensive segment.

In America, the first generation of the Previa would flop, as the Japanese model could not compete with the Chrysler Town and Country and the Plymouth Voyager. Therefore, this model was withdrawn from the US market back in 1997 and replaced by the Toyota Sienna.

The second generation of the Previa in 2000

The second generation of the Toyota Previa was put on the Camry platform and was narrower and lower than the first generation, and it got a longer wheelbase (29 centimetres extra). This time, the Previa got sliding doors on both sides of the car, making the minibus considerably more practical for users. The second generation would never come to America, as Toyota stuck to the Sienna there.

Incidentally, the second generation also spawned the Estima Hybrid (Japanese market), the first electric minibus, according to Toyota itself.

The third generation in 2006

In 2006, the third and also last generation of the Toyota Previa entered the market. Here, numerous ADAS systems were added, although some would be limited to Japanese models.

In 2016, this generation received a facelift, mainly to ensure that the Previa could offer some more resistance to the competition. A new, large infotainment display was added and the interior was refreshed. Toyota Safety Sense C, a new safety system, would only be placed in Estima models. The facelift also saw the choice of new automotive glass for the model, than filters 99% of UV light.

How successful did the Toyota Previa become?

The Toyota Previa was a learning model for the Japanese automaker and often we see such models flop. This has not been so much the case with the Previa. Granted, it didn't become a resounding sales success, but it still sold around 2,000 copies
in the Netherlands and the Previa was also reasonably successful outside the Netherlands, especially for ‘Toyota's first minivan’ that had to explore new technologies and possibilities.

Perhaps that test phase also applied to the advertisements for the model, because the advert below is probably one of the most remarkable, strange car advertisements you have ever seen (and at the same time may make you wonder who exactly is the target audience for this model).

When should the windscreen of your Toyota Previa be replaced?

Damage to the car can cause problems and is annoying in almost all cases, especially when pricey new car parts are needed to repair it. In the case of windscreen damage, however, replacement is far from always necessary. In most cases, you can simply continue driving with a damaged windscreen, especially when it is not directly in front of the driver.

There are roughly two cases where the windscreen does need to be replaced. Is the damage in the windscreen a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres and is it in the driver's field of vision? Then the windscreen of your Toyota Previa must be replaced. The car will be rejected at the next MOT with this windscreen damage, because it can cause dangerous situations.

What does a new windscreen for your Toyota Previa cost?

You already have a new windscreen for your Toyota Previa for €349 (excluding the windscreen moulding of €30, which you can order directly with us). These windscreens are only suitable for model years 2000 to 2005. The price is slightly higher for models made between 1990 and 2000, partly because the windscreen mouldings for these model years are pricier.

Our new windscreen for your Toyota is considerably cheaper than the automotive glass your Toyota dealer has ready. The quality is identical (car windows are often even made in the same factory), but because the original windscreens have a brand logo, they have a more exclusive character. Above all, this means a significantly higher price, without this logo doing anything for the window or the car. So if you want to make sure you choose windscreens with the best value for money, choose our after market automotive glass.

Why replacing your windscreen yourself is not immediately a tight plan

Replacing a car window yourself, that seems like the way to save on costs. In the case of side windows, this is certainly true if you are technical and have time. However, when it comes to replacing the windscreen of a model like the Toyota Previa, it is not wise to do it yourself, unless you are a specialist. Indeed, without space, technical knowledge, tools and enough time, you will not be able to bring this to a successful conclusion.

Do you have experience with windscreen replacement or know someone who can replace the Toyota Previa windscreen for you? Then you can order the new automotive glass from us without fitting. Business customers also regularly choose to collect the order from us (by appointment).
