The Toyota Prius is an extraordinary model. What started out as a type that was supposed to be ‘the car of the 21st century’ and received quite a bit of criticism, grew into a car model that would be sold millions of times around the world and whose name everyone knows. Do you have a Prius and need a windscreen replacement? Then you can come to us for cheap new windscreens at competitive prices. Before we look at the price of our automotive glass, let's take a closer look at Toyota's plug-in model.
The prototype of the Prius was on display in Tokyo back in 1995, but it took Toyota more than a year to actually bring the model to market. Initially (model name NHW10), the Prius was to enter the Japanese market exclusively. Incidentally, the design was by designers from California, who had won the design competition organised by Toyota.
Model type NHW11 was the Prius that would be made from 2000, and it did get placed at dealerships all over the world. Initially, the production run was limited, partly because Toyota did not know how much demand there would be for a model that would fall exactly between the Toyota Corolla and Toyota Camry.
The main difference between the NHW10 and NHW11 was the car's power, partly to cater to the higher speeds and longer distances of car users outside Japan (especially America).
The second generation of the Toyota Prius received a completely new design, with significantly more space in the back seat and boot (something the first generation was quite lacking in). How much work went into the second generation is evident from the whopping 530 new patents this model generated.
The second generation became very successful with nearly 1.2 million units sold worldwide, and that with disappointing results in the Chinese market where the model became very pricey due to high import duties.
By the third generation in 2009, it was clear that Toyota was losing market share. The model was marketed more cheaply to compete with the Honda Insight (which was significantly cheaper). To make the model more attractive at the same time, new ADAS systems were implemented in the model, making Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, intelligent parking assistance and lane-keeping assistance. At the same time, an even clearer focus was placed on sustainability, including by using bioplastics and other renewable materials in making the car.
In 2015, the fourth generation followed, which would be built on the new modular TNGA platform and from this would also come the Toyota Prius Eco. In 2018, the generation received a facelift where mainly the front and rear lights would be updated.
In 2022 came the fifth generation of the model, but these would not come to Europe until 2023 (plug-ins only). In New Zealand and Australia, the fifth generation of the Toyota Prius never showed up at dealerships. Initially, this generation was also not supposed to come to the UK, but this decision was reversed by the Toyota board.
Often, car commercials are somewhat boring or even annoying to watch. Since that was exactly the image of the Prius that Toyota wanted to get rid of, the carmaker decided to take a completely different tack and create a unique, comical advert.
There is often panic when a car's windscreen gets damaged, partly because of the unpleasant sound you hear when a pebble taps against the windscreen at high speed. In most cases, however, you can just keep on driving with windscreen damage, especially if the chip or crack is not in the driver's field of vision and does not (seriously) obstruct the view of the road.
However, if it is a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres and is in the driver's field of vision (i.e. directly above the steering wheel), the windscreen of your Toyota Prius will have to be replaced. The car can no longer be approved with this glass damage.
You already have a new windscreen for your Toyota Prius for €349 (excluding the €40 windscreen moulding). However, this windscreen is only suitable for models made between 2004 and 2009. If you have a Prius made after 2009, the price will be higher. The prices for our Toyota Prius windscreens are considerably lower than those charged by your Toyota dealer, while the quality of the automotive glass is identical. In fact, our windscreens are almost always made in the same factories as the original car windows for Toyota.
The price difference is in a brand logo that does nothing for Toyota Prius windscreens, except ensure an exclusive character that you will see reflected in the price. If you want to make sure you choose the best value for money, then opt for after market automotive glass. For example, our new windscreens for the Toyota Prius are often still cheaper than second-hand automotive glass for this model.
If you are looking for a manual on how to replace the windscreen of your Toyota Prius yourself, or if you think you can replace the windscreen yourself from a YouTube video, then we strongly recommend you to let our certified fitting partners replace the windscreen. Replacing the windscreen yourself is by definition not a tight plan if you have little knowledge or experience of this job, but with an electric car or plug-in hybrid, it is simply an even worse idea.
Can you replace the windscreen yourself? Then you can always come to us for car windows without fitting. This is because we also supply garages and specialists throughout the Netherlands and Belgium.
Are you looking for a new Toyota Prius windscreen at a competitive price, but at the same time do not want to compromise on quality and ordering convenience? Then you have come to the right place.
