Cheap windscreen replacement for your Toyota RAV4

The Toyota RAV4 has been an unprecedented success for the Japanese carmaker and the car industry itself, as this model has been the forerunner of the compact crossover, the type that changed the car market. Do you own a Toyota RAV4 and need to replace the windscreen because it is (seriously) damaged? Then you will find cheap car windows of the best quality with us.

Before we look at the windscreens we have available for your Toyota RAV4, let's look at all the generations of this now iconic and world-famous model.

The RAV4 is the birth of the compact crossover

Toyota's RAV4 has achieved legendary status. In fact, when this model first entered the market in 1994, it was the very first compact crossover SUV, a model that combined the advantages of a spacious car (plenty of boot space and space for rear-seat occupants) with the advantages of a smaller car (manoeuvrability, fuel efficiency and more limited size that makes it more convenient in the city). As you are no doubt aware, after the RAV4, many more compact crossover SUV models entered the market from just about every carmaker in the world.

The first generation of the Toyota RAV4 in 1994

The first generation of the Toyota RAV4 entered the market in 1994 (initially only in Japan) and had a number of similarities with the Toyota Carina and the Toyota Corolla, despite the fact that the RAV4 would be built on a completely unique platform. The name ‘RAV4’ has two backgrounds: ‘Robust Accurate Vehicle with 4-wheel drive’ or ‘Recreational Active Vehicle with 4-wheel drive’. Quite ironic in itself, since not all versions of this model would be equipped with four-wheel drive. An electric version of the first generation would also be made, but it was only available in small numbers in California.

The second generation in 2000

Back in 1995, Toyota started developing the second generation of the Toyota RAV4, but it would take until 2000 before this model would actually arrive at dealerships. Not much changed, except that it became clear how big a success this model would become. Indeed, in Australia, all sales records were broken and Toyota's second generation RAV4 knocked the Honda CR-V off its throne as the best-selling SUV in 2001.

In 2003, Toyota decided to give the RAV4 a facelift. In some markets, the model received a new engine and for all markets, the model was better equipped, including with automatic electric air conditioning. For the US market, even the safety of the RAV4 was improved to ensure that the model would be more marketable.

2005: the third generation of the Toyota RAV4

In 2005, the new generation was shown for the model, which was completely redesigned for the third generation. Indeed, the third generation was even built on a completely new platform and was available with two different wheelbases: a short and long version. The short wheelbase was sold only in Japan, Europe and New Zealand, so it would never come to America. The longer version could even be fitted with an extra rear seat (exclusively for the Japanese and North American markets).

The new generation would be equipped with numerous extra features, including nine airbags, an EPS system (electric power steering) and Smart Entry and Start System (access without a physical car key).

The third generation was the point where Toyota proved that it still stuck to the Japanese strategy with diverse, different models for all markets worldwide. The third generation received two facelifts, though of course these were also different by continent and country.

Partnering with Tesla for the second generation of the RAV4 EV

In 2012, the second generation of the electric RAV4 entered the market, but again, the run would remain very limited (2600 units in total). The second generation involved a collaboration with Tesla, which ensured that the powertrain of the RAV EV was similar to that of the Tesla Model S (also launched in 2012) after 2012.

2012: the fourth generation and the iconic wheel disappears

After the completely new design for the third generation, Toyota had a taste for it and came up with a completely new design for the fourth generation as well, with the extra wheel on the back of the car disappearing. Toyota also opted for a tailgate instead of a door. Toyota immediately marketed a hybrid with an additional 50 kW electric motor operating independently of the hybrid system.

This generation would get a facelift in 2015 (2016 model year), but not much changed. The most noticeable change was the new design of the LED lights at the front and the lights at the rear of the car.

2018: the fifth generation of the Toyota RAV4

In 2018, the fifth generation of the Toyota RAV4 was shown to the public in New York and this generation would share the platform with the XV70 series of the Toyota Camry. Diesel versions were removed from the range, though it was still possible to choose between a petrol or a hybrid (with a petrol engine).

The latest generation had quite a few modifications. For instance, the fifth generation chassis is much stiffer, the side mirrors are mounted lower on the door, the wipers are not visible when not in use and the instrument panel sits much lower. Toyota has chosen this to significantly improve visibility from inside the car, in order to market an even safer model.

In 2019, Toyota would also launch a PHEV (plug-in hybrid) of the RAV4, a model with 302 hp and 228 Nm, which ensured that this would become the fastest accelerating Toyota after the Toyota GR Supra (at the time of introduction).

The Toyota RAV4's unprecedented success for the Japanese

The success of the Toyota RAV4 is immense. Not only was this the model that put the compact crossover SUV on the map and became a type that has become by far the most popular option in recent decades, the RAV4 itself has become unprecedentedly popular. More than 10 million units had already been sold worldwide by 2020, and as the model is still in production, the end of its sales success is nowhere in sight.

The model also became a success in the Netherlands; at the time of writing, some 31,000 units
have been sold, putting the RAV4 just behind the Toyota Corolla Verso and the Toyota Prius in the ranking of best-selling Toyota models on Dutch soil.

This is the place where we show you advertisements for the models covered on the page and frankly, we have been eagerly waiting for this. Indeed, an advert was made for the RAV4 that has become downright legendary and reminds many people of Home Alone. We won't say anything further:

When should the Toyota RAV4 windscreen be replaced?

The Toyota RAV4 windscreen should be replaced when there is damage to the windscreen in the driver's field of vision and it involves a branched crack or a chip at least two centimetres in diameter. In these cases, the windscreen damage is highly distracting and incoming light can be reflected in an unpredictable way, which can blind you while driving.

In all other cases, you decide whether you want to replace the windscreen of the Toyota RAV4 (or have it replaced) or continue driving (temporarily) with windscreen damage. Do keep in mind that windscreen damage can worsen, especially if there are large temperature differences between either side of the windscreen, for example while driving on a cold winter day with the heater full on the windscreen.

What does a new windscreen for the Toyota RAV4 cost?

You already have a new Toyota RAV4 windscreen for €299. This includes VAT, but does not include any additional costs for windscreen mouldings or rubbers (of course, you can also order these directly from us). The price of our car windows is much lower than that of original Toyota car windows, and there is a striking reason for this. This is because the quality is identical, but the automotive glass at your Toyota dealer bears a brand logo that gives the car windows an exclusive character, which concretely means that you mainly pay more. So, for automotive glass with the best value for money, you end up with our after market car windows for your Toyota RAV4.

Windscreen replacement on-site or replace your Toyota RAV4 windscreen yourself?

To make things as easy as possible for you, we cooperate with certified fitting partners who replace car windows on location throughout the Netherlands and Belgium, even at home. This is practical for a number of reasons. First of all, most people cannot replace the RAV4 windscreen themselves. In addition, there are cases of windscreen damage where ‘just driving to a garage’ can be particularly risky. So with the help of our partners, you can get back on the streets safely in no time, without any extra effort on your part.
