Cheap windscreen replacement for your Toyota Starlet

The Toyota Starlet is a well-known and very popular model from Japan that has been sold millions of times worldwide. Do you own one or do you have a Starlet in mind and the model's windscreen is damaged? Then with us you can always find cheap, high-quality car windows, making windscreen replacement a lot more affordable. Before we tell you all about this, we will first look at Toyota's successful model.

The birth of the Toyota Starlet in 1973

The Toyota Starlet entered the market in 1973 and was the replacement for the Toyota Publica,
although the Starlet would be both more luxurious and larger than its predecessor. At launch, two different engines were available, one with 1000cc and one with 1200cc. Initially the model was only available as a 2-door coupe (nicknamed: baby Celica), but the 4-door would also be added to the range by the end of 1973. However, the 4-door would not be exported: Toyota decided to offer the cheaper 2-door (1000 cc) in markets outside Japan, as this model was considerably cheaper and better suited to demand in those markets.

The second generation of the Starlet in 1978

In 1978 came the second generation of the model and these examples did go on sale worldwide, which immediately ensured great sales success in Britain, the export country for Toyota in Europe. Toyota tackled it cleverly (as usual) and immediately marketed several trim levels, including the GL, XL, S, Sprint and the Lisse.

In 1980, the full generation would get a facelift, with the headlights becoming square. Another facelift followed three years later, where the entire nose of the car was addressed.

1984: the third generation of the Toyota Starlet

In 1984 came the third generation and front-wheel drive for the Starlet. The model was marketed in numerous versions, but the 3- and 5-door hatchback models quickly became the most popular, although the 3-door van as a version of the Starlet also received a lot of attention. Expert markets, incidentally, had much more to choose from than the average Japanese, as Toyota chased sales successes with the Starlet and wanted to hold on to its growing market share.

In 1987, Toyota still showed attention to its own market, as the facelift was only for Japanese models. These got a completely new front end, different taillights, bigger bumpers and even a new interior. Models for the European market were not updated.

1989: a fourth generation sees the light of day

In 1989 came the fourth generation of the Starlet and this was the point where Toyota (as usual) made a particularly long list of model types to connect with each market. Incidentally, the fourth generation did not come to Europe until 1990, where the 1.3 XLi in particular became a sales success. Special models were also built from this, such as the Toyota Starlet XLi Jeans, Dance and Westwood.

This generation received a few more minor modifications, but in 1995 the curtain would fall on the fourth generation in Japan. Incidentally, production in Indonesia continued for another three years, while other markets had long and wide the fifth generation at dealerships by then.

It would take until 1996 for the fifth generation to arrive

In 1996, Toyota brought the fifth generation of the Starlet, which would share the platform with the Toyota Paseo, but this generation would only stay in production for a very short time. As early as 1999, the model had to make way, mainly because Toyota would set out for the next immense success for the car brand with the Toyota Yaris.

How successful did the Toyota Starlet actually become?

The Toyota Starlet is an unprecedentedly popular model and it is still in high demand on the second-hand market. Back in 1991, the sales counter ticked the 2.4 million mark, and back then, almost 200,000 units of the model were still sold every year. The Starlet also became a resounding success in the Netherlands: Toyota sold more than 110,000 units
on Dutch soil, putting the Starlet ahead of only three models: the Toyota Aygo, the Toyota Yaris and, of course, the Toyota Corolla.

When does your Toyota Starlet windscreen need replacing?

It could just happen that you get a pebble against the windscreen of your Toyota Starlet while driving, or a falling object causes window damage to your car. Then this could mean that the windscreen of your Toyota Starlet has to be replaced. In most cases, you can continue driving your car as normal, as in only two cases does the windscreen need to be replaced. These include a chip with a diameter of at least two centimetres or a branched crack, but only when this windscreen damage is in the driver's field of vision. This is because this damage means rejection at the Starlet's next MOT.

What does a cheap Toyota Starlet windscreen cost?

You already have a new windscreen for your Toyota Starlet for €299. This is the price including VAT and excluding delivery costs and any on-site fitting costs. We can offer our automotive glass so cheaply because our replacement car windows do not bear any brand logo. Original Toyota windscreens do and therefore have a more exclusive character, which mainly translates to a significantly higher price. This is despite the fact that the quality of the automotive glass is identical; the automotive glass is often even made in the same factories.

The price difference between our cheap windscreens and the automotive glass at your Toyota dealer is so great that our new automotive glass is often still cheaper than second-hand car windows for the Toyota Starlet.
