The Volvo 940 is a model that has achieved a special status within the Swedish car manufacturer's model series. In fact, the 940 is one of the most reliable Volvo models ever made and, incidentally, the most reliable Volvo ever. At the same time, Volvo was very attentive to different markets, which prompted the Swedes to make diverse types that would only be offered in certain countries.
Do you have a Volvo 940 and need a windscreen replacement? Then you can find a new windscreen for as little as €249 with us. Before we look at this cheap automotive glass for your Volvo, let's take a look at the 940 to see just how special this model really is.
There is a very good reason for the reliability of the Volvo 940. With most new models, Volvo first put a premium model on the market and then worked out the kinks before putting a stripped-down model on the mass market. This was not the case with the 940. Volvo took the Volvo 740, kept most of the parts and developed the new Volvo 940 from it. This ensured that there were hardly any problems with these models; in fact, they had already disappeared with the modifications on the 740 in the years before.
The Volvo 940, in production from 1990 to 1998, is thus jokingly called a Volvo 740 in a new cosmetic jacket. Incidentally, the same was true of its big brother, the Volvo 960, which would become an extension of the Volvo 760.
Volvo scored many points by paying attention to local differences. For instance, from 1994, Britain only got models with a 2.3-litre engine, and the 2.0-litre engines remained for higher-tax countries. Two POLAR models were also made (one with and one without a turbocharger) for the Italian market, and the Volvo 940 TACK was specially developed for the Asian market.
The striking fact is that all versions had the same problem. Even with the varied versions and wide engine range, the Volvo 940 was above all a particularly thirsty car with relatively high consumption. Another problem, seen especially on Scandinavian roads, was that the high torque at low revs made driving over slippery roads particularly difficult. Of course, this also had to do with the fact that this would be one of Volvo's last models with rear-wheel drive. Still, the GLE version of the Volvo 940 would be a great success, both literally and figuratively.
Almost 500,000 units were made of the Volvo 940: 246,704 sedans and 231,677 combi models. This has certainly made the reliable, strong Volvo 940 one of the success models from Sweden that Volvo can be proud of, especially since there are still relatively many examples in circulation. The model's success can also be seen (to a lesser extent) in the Netherlands, where it sold over 13,000. This puts it just slightly ahead of the Volvo C30, but at the same time it has to beat the Volvo S80 and Volvo 850 in the ranking of Volvo's best-selling models in the Netherlands.
Many of the commercials for the Volvo 940 are somewhat boring as the Swedish carmaker's main emphasis has been on the model's safety. However, after some searching, we found a promotional video that shows Volvo's quirkiness.
Although a chipped windscreen is a bit of a shock in almost all cases (especially when a stone taps against the windscreen on the motorway), in most cases the windscreen does not need to be replaced. For limited windscreen damage, you can opt for windscreen repair, but for more extensive damage in the windscreen, windscreen replacement is unavoidable. This involves damage in the driver's field of vision that involves a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres.
If the damage is in another place, you can continue driving with the windscreen damage as it is not a reject during the MOT. However, it is wise to keep an eye on the damage and still opt for windscreen replacement if the crack or chip is distracting while driving.
You can get a new windscreen for the Volvo 940 from as little as €249 from us (excluding windscreen clips, but including VAT). Our automotive glass prices are significantly lower than the prices your Volvo dealer will quote you. There's a reason for this. The branded windows at Volvo feature a brand logo that makes the automotive glass exclusive and therefore more expensive. Our automotive glass is identical to the ones at your dealer, but because our Volvo windscreens do not have a brand logo, we can offer them much cheaper.
How much difference that brand logo makes, you will see when you look at second-hand automotive glass. Our new windscreens for the Volvo 940 are actually cheaper than used 940 windscreens in most cases.
Replacing car windows yourself is only a good idea if you have the technical knowledge and experience or if it involves replacing a side window of an (older) Volvo. Replacing the windscreen of your Volvo 940 yourself using an online manual or a YouTube instruction video is a particularly bad idea. The risk of damage to yourself or the car is simply too great, especially if you get started with a large windscreen yourself and don't know exactly what to do.
To make things easier for you, we work with certified fitting partners who arrange on-site car window replacement throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. So you can simply leave your car in your driveway or in the car park at work. Handy when you do not want to worry about the replacement or do not want to or cannot drive to the garage.
During the ordering process, you decide the time frame within which the windscreen of your Volvo 940 should be replaced. However, are you a garage owner or automotive glass specialist and want to arrange the car windscreen replacement yourself? Then you can also order all automotive glass from us without fitting.
Are you looking for a new windscreen for your Volvo 940 and want to be assured of the best value for money and optimal service? Then choose us. Not only will you find the best windscreens at the keenest prices, you can always come to us for answers to all your questions about automotive glass.
