Volvo is known for reliable, solid cars and trucks. However, the latter has not always been so. Indeed, it was not until the introduction of the Volvo F10 that Volvo would actually gain market share in the international truck market. Not only did the series become a resounding success, it was also the beginning of the Volvo empire with Swedish trucks used all over the world today.
Do you have a Volvo F10, F12 or F16 and need to replace the windscreen? Then we have truck windscreens with the best value for money and optimal service. Before we get into this, we will of course take a look at Volvo's iconic truck.
The Volvo F10/F12 is a truck series from Volvo that would be produced from 1977 to 1993. Both the F10 and F12 saw the light of day in 1977 and were meant to ensure that Volvo could enter the truck market. Therefore, extra attention was paid to the models, which among other things received safer cabs and where considerably more attention was paid to driver ergonomics. At the same time, much was borrowed from the N-series that Volvo launched in 1973. Several parts and much of the chassis were carried over to the new F10 and F12.
The efforts were rewarded. Volvo managed to sell more than 200,000 models of this series. In 1987, Volvo decided to extend production for another few years, but at the same time put the Volvo F16 alongside the F10 and F12. The main difference was that the F16 had a significantly more powerful engine. In 1994, the complete series was replaced by the Volvo FH (Volvo FH12 and FH16).
One factor that contributed particularly to the success of the series was the completely new generation that Volvo set up in 1983 after having already developed the Globetrotter in 1979, especially for longer distances. According to the Swedish company, the changes in 1983 were "at least as comprehensive as the modifications made in 1977".
The exterior of the trucks changed completely and the entire series received larger truck windscreens, a higher roof (also for the sleeper cabs) and the trucks' appearance was considerably more modern, as Volvo threw the angular design off the drawing board in 1983 and went with round shapes.
Equally important, certainly for the transport industry itself, was that Volvo made the chassis considerably lighter from 1983 and, with numerous additional modifications, ensured that the new generation was considerably more fuel efficient. Equally innovative and surprising was the addition of a heater (powered by the fuel itself) that could be used even when the truck was stationary.
Damage in the windscreen is annoying, especially when you are driving a truck and want to keep an overview due to a heavy or dangerous load. This is why the windscreen of a truck is usually replaced earlier than that of a passenger car. However, the rule is the same. The windscreen of your Volvo F10/F12/F16 should be replaced when there is window damage in the driver's field of vision, involving a chip of at least 20 millimetres or a branched crack.
In all other cases, you may continue driving with a chipped windscreen, but in these cases, decide mainly for yourself whether the damage is not too bothersome or distracting.
With us, you can always find cheap car and truck glass. For example, you can find a new windscreen for your Volvo F10/F12/F16 for as little as €339, and these are the larger windows for the second generation of the truck series. These are the costs including VAT, but excluding fitting and delivery. You can see directly in the overview what your total price will be when you specify where and when you want delivery and windscreen replacement arranged.
Our after market glass for the Volvo F10/F12/F16 is significantly cheaper than the glass offered by your Volvo dealer. Our truck windows are made in the same factories and the quality is identical, but our glass does not have a brand logo that makes the window unnecessarily exclusive and therefore expensive. So for the best value for money, you can always come to us.
