Cheap windscreen replacement for your Volvo S70/V70

The Volvo S70 and V70 together form a remarkable story for the Swedish automaker. One of the models flopped as it was pushed off the market by its counterpart that became a huge success in several European countries as well as outside the continent. Do you have a Volvo S70/V70 with a chipped windscreen and do you need a windscreen replacement? Then you will find new car windows with the best value for money. Before we look at prices and options, let's take a closer look at the two models.

The Volvo S70 in a nutshell: 4 years of production, 1 facelift

The Volvo S70 was in production from 1996 to 2000 and even got a facelift in 1999, with mostly mechanical parts replaced. The car also got Volvo's new logo on the grille. In fact, the S70 is little more than a modified Volvo 850 with rounder shapes. In total, 1800 things were tweaked, but when you know that the use of a different screw, knob or other plate is already counted in this number, it is clear that the S70 did not bring much new. The Volvo S70 was replaced in 2000 by the Volvo S60, which became a much bigger success.

The Volvo V70, its big brother, did become a success number

When the S70 entered the market in 1996, it was immediately juxtaposed with the V70, which was considerably more spacious and would remain in production through 2016. Also built on the P80 platform,
this model was initially based on Volvo's 850 and also received a facelift in 1999.

The V70 immediately got numerous variants, including an AWD (all-wheel drive) version, a V70 TDI (not available in all countries due to taxation) and a CNG variant, including a Bi-Fuel model. In doing so, Volvo directly ensured that the V70 became attractive to numerous car enthusiasts, markets and companies that needed a spacious, solid and reliable business car. In this way, the Swedes aimed to compete with BMW, Mercedes and Audi to strengthen their market share. With success, as the Volvo V70 was an instant success and that would only be further reinforced with the second and third generations.

The second and third generations: a different car?

Volvo decided to build the second generation of the V70 on the P2 platform
and it had more in common with the Volvo S60 than the Volvo 850. With the new platform, Volvo also immediately had more space (longer wheelbase and higher car), which resulted in more boot space and a rear seat placed a bit higher for more comfort.

Volvo clearly had a taste for it, because in 2008 came the third generation and again a different platform was chosen, this time the P3 platform
and this time borrowing from the Volvo S80. The Volvo V70 got a bit bigger again and got both 4- and 6-cylinder engines under the bonnet.

The Volvo V70 was succeeded at the end of its production years by the Volvo V90, which became an even bigger and more luxurious model to take the competition with the Germans to the next level.

One of the models deserves extra attention and that is the V70 plug-in-hybrid that was made in collaboration with Vattenfall (a Swedish energy company) to do numerous tests in 2009. The test results were used for further research, but the model never made it to the public market. It would be the Volvo V60 plug-in-hybrid that got the pioneering role for the Swedes.

The disappointing figures of the Volvo S70 were the success of the Volvo V70

Volvo has more often pushed its own models out of the limelight by releasing another, more popular model at the same time. This has also been the case with the Volvo S70 and Volvo V70. The S70 was only in production for a couple of years and the sales counter ticked just over 4,000 units in the Netherlands, making it a Swedish flop. However, the V70, its attractive counterpart marketed alongside the S70, is firmly in the top three with nearly 80,000 cars sold in the Netherlands and also became a resounding success worldwide. In this respect, the V70 can almost compete with the now iconic Volvo 440.

Whether this is also due to the advertisements for the models, that remains to be seen. After all, most Volvo advertisements are thirteen-in-a-dozen, with the main emphasis on family life and little focus on the car. Although we should add that the Volvo V70 ad does stand out and can even be called a tad naughty.

When should the windscreen of your Volvo S70 or V70 be replaced?

A chipped windscreen can be quite annoying, but far from every type of windscreen damage means that the entire window needs to be replaced. On the contrary, as there are roughly only two cases where you need to look for new automotive glass. These are windscreen damage in the driver's field of vision where there is a chip at least 20 millimetres in diameter or a branched crack.

In all other cases, you can continue driving with a chip or crack in the windscreen.

What does a new windscreen for your Volvo S70/V70 cost?

You already have a new windscreen for your Volvo S70 or V70 from €299 (first generations of both models). For the same price, you can also find a new windscreen for the second generation of the V70 with us. These automotive glass prices are much lower than the Volvo dealer charges you because we only supply after market automotive glass. The quality of the glass is identical, but because our automotive glass does not have a brand logo that has to be paid for expensively, the price is much lower. In fact, our new windscreens are often even cheaper than original used windscreens for your Volvo.

If you prefer the best quality at the lowest price, then choose after market automotive glass. Especially since we can completely relieve you of all your worries.
