Cheap windscreen replacement for your Volvo S80

The Volvo S80 was in production for almost 20 years and was a relative success for the Swedish company. It was only when the model was no longer made that a lot of interest in the model, which is praised for its Scandinavian solidity and affordable luxury, a combination Volvo is more often credited with. Do you have a Volvo S80 with a chipped windscreen, or do you have your eye on a used S80 with a chip or crack in the window and need a car window replacement? Then you will always find automotive glass with the best value for money with us.

Before we look at windscreen replacement, let's give the special Volvo S80 the space it deserves.

The Volvo S80: 18 years of production spread over two generations

The Volvo S80 saw the light of day in 1998, replacing the popular Volvo 940 and the Volvo 960, but what stood out the most was Volvo's decision not to immediately provide the first generation with an estate version. The first generation of the Volvo S80 was built on the P2-platform
(known from the Volvo V70, Volvo S60 and the Volvo XC90, among others) and this generation had another striking, strange fact. It opted for a 6-cylinder engine (in-line) placed transversely, but as a result, the manual gearbox no longer fitted and a completely new gearbox had to be designed.

Initially, the first generation was available with four different engines, but this range would (fully in Volvo's style) be continually expanded to capture a wider market share.

The second generation of the Volvo S80: 311 hp V8 engines under the hood

For the second generation of the Volvo S80, the Swedish carmaker pulled out more. Not only did these models come with a 4.4-litre V8 or a 3.2-litre 6-cylinder, it also opted for the P3-platform
to squeeze more features into the new generation. This platform has also been widely used by Ford, for example for the Ford Mondeo (third generation) and the Ford S-Max.

At the same time, Volvo also raised the bar even higher, for example by adding adaptive cruise control to the arsenal, along with brake assist and a blind spot information system. This made the second generation of the Volvo S80 even more luxurious, which should allow Volvo to gain space on the more luxurious brands in the market segment, which mainly include Audi, BMW and Mercedes.

Was the Volvo S80 a sales success in the Netherlands?

We can't call the Volvo S80 a resounding success, especially since most of the 15,000 units on Dutch soil were sold by dealers in the introduction year. At the same time, this is a more luxurious car that did not come with the estate version, which is precisely what makes Volvo models so popular in Europe and the United States. We should also add that the S80 still gets a lot of attention and praise on the used market.

By the way, the omission of the estate version was a conscious decision. After all, Volvo already had the Volvo XC60 and the third-generation Volvo V70 on the market and did not want to provide its own models with additional competition (yet again).

What is striking about Volvo and promotional material is that it is an incredible love-hate relationship. In one of the commercials, Volvo managed to create a complete James Bond-style action story, but seems to have forgotten to pay attention to the car to sell the product. The advert below is the television spot for the second generation of the S80 and was aired in 2008.

When does the windscreen of your Volvo S80 need replacing?

Do you notice that the windscreen has been damaged in a car park or does a pebble splash against the windscreen causing a chipped windscreen while driving? All forms of car damage are annoying, but in the case of a chipped windscreen, it is good to first take a critical look at the location and extent of the damage to your windscreen.

The windscreen should be replaced when the damage is in the driver's field of vision and involves a chip at least 20 millimetres in diameter or a branched crack. In all other cases, the windscreen does not need to be replaced and you can continue driving with a chip or crack in the glass.

What does a new Volvo S80 windscreen cost?
